Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.

EXPERIENCE IN THE OPERATION AND MONITORING OF BRIDGE SUPPORTS WHICH ARE SUBJECTS TO IRREGULAR PRECIPITATION AND CAREENS

open access: yesScience and Transport Progress, 2005
The article provides examples of non-uniform settlings and heels of flyover supports, exposed to a considerable extent, and enlists the common causes and regularities in their appearance and development. The measures on liquidation of an accident rate of facilities and increase of their operational reliability are indicated.

Careening areas in marinas, anchorages, and private shipyards. Status of implementation of the MSFD measure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Ship careening, which consists of stripping antifouling paint, generates waste. These residues contain different chemical contaminants that can have an impact on the marine environment. The implementation of the Marine Environment Strategy Framework Directive has been declined through the adoption of Action Plans. Cerema was mandated by the Ministry of

When Poor Exciton Dissociation Limits Photocurrents in Organic Solar Cells: Why Low Offset Non‐Fullerene Acceptor Blends Can't Be Efficient

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The energetic offset between the donor and the acceptor components in organic photoactive layers is central to the tradeoff between photovoltage and photocurrent losses. This Perspective covers the most important issues surrounding this topic in non‐fullerene acceptor blends, from the difficulty of accurately determining state energies and driving ...

Phase Engineering of Atomically Precise Nanoclusters (APNCs) of Gold and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Engineering the structural phase of materials is of paramount importance for both fundamental research and practical applications. In this Review, we summarize the recent progress in controlling the phases of atomically precise nanoclusters (APNCs) of gold, silver and copper, as well as bimetallic systems. The phase‐enabled material properties of APNCs
