Biomimetic Multiscale‐Structured Biomass Graphene/Polyurethane Sponge Composite for Flexible Pressure Sensors and Intelligent Cushioning Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, a multifunctional conductive sponge composite (MAPU) is developed using a biomimetic, hierarchical construction strategy emulating the growth process of natural wood. This approach involved integrating biomass‐derived graphitic nanoflakes, synthesized from luffa vine (LVGN), into a polyurethane (PU) sponge matrix.

Piezo‐Phototronic PVDF/HfO2/Nano‐Cu Heterostructured Thin Film for Flexible Self‐Powered Multimodal Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrospinning a composite of PVDF, HfO2, and nano‐Cu transforms the discrete precursors into a continuous nanofiber mesh, forming a multi‐interface heterostructure with embedded nanoparticles. The presence of HfO2 and nano‐Cu at the fiber interfaces induces a highly aligned β‐phase, which enhances piezoelectric crystallinity and improves the material'

Twelve principles to support caregiver engagement in health care systems and health research

open access: yesPatient Experience Journal, 2019
Family and friend caregivers (i.e., unpaid carers) play a critical role in meeting the needs of people across various ages and illness circumstances. Caregiver experiences and expertise, which are currently overlooked, should be considered in practice ...

Statistics and society: a study on the burden experienced by caregivers of patients with Alzheimer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The cost of caring for people with Alzheimer-type diseases is enormous. Caregivers experience emotional, physical and financial stress, and their demands are central to decisions on patient institutionalization.

EGaIn‐Activated Bioinspired Silk Micro/Nanofibril Eutectogels Breaking the Strength–Conductivity Trade‐Off for High‐Performance Wearable Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the extracellular matrix, eutectogels are prepared by in situ deconstruction of silk fibroin into micro/nanofibrils and EGaIn‐induced polymerization. The multiscale fibril network with dynamic crosslinking achieves high strength (1.25 MPa), toughness (23.09 MJ m−3), and conductivity (1.51 S m−1), outperforming previous natural polymer ...

Poria cocos as a Functional Food for Diabetes and Diabetes‐Related Foot Ulcers

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Poria cocos is known as an edible mushroom for food and medicine. Poria cocos and its terpenes and terpenoids serve as novel remedies to treat diabetes and its ulcers. Its mode of actions includes reduction of insulin resistance, starch digestion and inflammation as well as promotion of blood vessel formation. ABSTRACT Poria cocos is a medicinal fungus

Hip fracture. Preliminary results supporting significative correlations between the psychological wellbeing of patients and their relative caregivers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background and aim. Hip fracture is one of the major causes of loss of self-sufficiency in older patients. The associated caregiving rehabilitation task often falls to the lot of a member of the patient’s family.
