We measured and modelled annual greenhouse gas fluxes from thawing permafrost peatlands in boreal, western Canada over a 3‐year period. We found that interannual variability in water table and soil temperatures were the main control on annual greenhouse gas balances.

Abstract The Sandhill Wetland (SW) and Nikanotee Fen (NF) are two wetland research projects designed to test the viability of peatland reclamation in the Alberta oil sands post‐mining landscape. To identify effective approaches for establishing peat‐forming vegetation in reclaimed wetlands, we evaluated how plant introduction approaches and water level

Joint species distribution modeling with competition for space
Abstract Joint species distribution models (JSDM) are among the most important statistical tools in community ecology. However, existing JSDMs cannot model mutual exclusion between species. We tackle this deficiency in the context of modeling plant percentage cover data, where mutual exclusion arises from limited growing space and competition for light.

Plant species occupy distinct niches along a nitrogen‐to‐phosphorus (N:P) gradient, yet there is no general framework for belowground nutrient acquisition traits in relation to N or P limitation. Our results partly support the plant root economics space framework, but species' mycorrhizal capacity patterns conflicted with root economics space ...

Vegetation of Hydrogenic Soils in the South Kujawy Region. I. Communities and Associations of Vegetation of Anthropogenic Origin [PDF]
329 species of vascular plants and 52 species of mosses were recorded in the hydrogenic soils of the South Kujawy region. In the vegetation 78 different communities and associations were represented.

New measurements of thousand-seed weights of species in the Pannonian flora [PDF]
For understanding local and regional seed dispersal and plant establishment processes and for considering the ecotypes and other forms of specific variability, hard data of locally or regionally measured traits are necessary.

The effects of drainage and restoration of pine mires on habitat structure, vegetation and ants [PDF]
Habitat loss and degradation are the main threats to biodiversity worldwide. For example, nearly 80% of peatlands in southern Finland have been drained. There is thus a need to safeguard the remaining pristine mires and to restore degraded ones.
