Cargo handling equipment for dry cargo vessels1

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1964
The paper gives comparisons between the various types of cargo handling equipment such as winches with various designs of derricks, cranes and cargo lifts, giving their advantages and disadvantages for different types of vessel, also different types of cargo to be handled. The emphasis is on dry cargo carried by the “Liner Trade”. The paper also covers

Cargo Control on Handling Machinery

World of Transport and Transportation, 2016
Any weighing systems create, if it is necessary to use them, a lot of problems during transportation and handling. The paper proposes a non-contact method for evaluating maximum permissible load mass values of cargo lifted (moved) by handling machines according to the value of magnetic field strength, which is created by a DC motor. Measurements do not

An Autonomous Guided Vehicle for Cargo Handling Applications

The International Journal of Robotics Research, 1996
This article describes an autonomous guided vehicle (AGV) system designed to transport ISO standard cargo containers in port environments. The AGV consists of a large 17.5-ton chassis, which is driven and steered through a diesel-hydraulic power set. The vehicle drives on pneumatic wheels over un prepared road surfaces at speeds up to 6 m/s.

Cargo-handling equipment

1986
Cargo handling is an extensive subject and primarily involves the interface between the ship and port. The degree of efficiency attained to maximize cargo throughput at a berth, quicken ship turn-round time in port and minimize cargo-handling cost overall affects the development of international trade and cost of the international distribution of goods.

Advanced Baggage/Cargo Handling

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1984
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The rapid, efficient handling of baggage and cargo present the airline operator with almost identical problems. In fact, both fit within the same system during the actual transport phases. Significant cost and time savings result when baggage and cargo are consolidated into unit-loads that fit efficiently in the ...

Advanced Cargo Handling Systems

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1969
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Advanced cargo handling systems will be heavily influenced by standardization of next generation air cargo modules, containers, and pallet loads. These influences will be felt through the entire logistics system of military and commercial airlift.

TERMINAL HANDLING of AIR CARGO

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1943
<div class="htmlview paragraph"><b>THE handling of the three classes of cargo - unpackaged light pieces, unpackaged heavy units, and packaged goods in different shapes - requires, Mr. Larson says, greater simplification and standardization. Containers used for surface-shipped goods are generally too heavy for air cargo shipping, and lighter

SHIP'S CARGO HANDLING EQUIPMENT

2009

A Review of Cargo Handling Equipment

1971
Abstract : A review of the current methods for transferring cargo between a ship undergoing sea induced motion and a relatively stable platform or dock is made. Suggestions for improved equipment are offered as well as a plan for implementing them. Current equipment is felt to be adequate for transferring cargo in calm weather, but leaves much to be ...
