The Caribbean is characterized by geographic, political, and economic diversity, yet it is subject to easy stereotyping. Close to 44 million people, 0.058% of the world population, live in this archipelago. Largely black and Hispanic with some indigenous people, the population in different islands is a reflection of their particular history.
