Somatic Embryogenesis in Papaya (Carica papaya L.)

2022
High mortality rates of in vitro plants during ex vitro acclimatization, due to low rooting, is one of the main problems of papaya tissue culture. This work was carried out with the objective to obtain 100% hermaphroditic in vitro plants of the papaya cultivar "Maradol Roja" by somatic embryogenesis, which have an adequate rooting system that allows ...

Anther culture of papaya (Carica papaya L.)

Plant Cell Reports, 1985
Papaya (Carica papaya L.) anther containing microspores in tetrad to early-binucleate stages were successfully cultured on 1/2 strength MS salts and vitamins with full strength Na-Fe-EDTA supplemented with 2 mg/l NAA, 1 mg/l BA and 6% sucrose for callus initiation and formation.

GRAFTING PAPAYAS (CARICA PAPAYA L.)

Acta Horticulturae, 2010
Papaya is one of the few fruit crops still propagated by seed. Vegetative propagation by leafy cuttings has been practiced successfully in South Africa for over 40 years, because Papaya ringspot virus has not been a problem. Grafting has been done in various places but problems have arisen locally with bacterial infection of the scions.

Papaya (Carica papaya L.)

2006
Transgenic papaya plants were initially obtained using particle bombardment, a method having poor efficiency in producing intact, single-copy insertion of transgenes. Single-copy gene insertion was improved using Agrobacterium tumefaciens. With progress being made in genome sequencing and gene discovery, there is a need for more efficient methods of ...

MUTAGENIC STUDIES IN PAPAYA (CARICA PAPAYA L.)

Acta Horticulturae, 2010
Mutation is one of the methods used for creating variability in plants. Among the several mutagenic agents, chemical mutagens are getting importance due to their effectiveness and ease in usage. An experiment was carried out to induce variability within the cultivar 'Surya' by chemical mutagen 'Ethyl Methane Sulphonate' (EMS), so that useful mutagens ...

GENETIC ANALYSIS IN PAPAYA (CARICA PAPAYA L.)

Acta Horticulturae, 2010
Analysis of various genetic characters in papaya was done during 2000 to 2002 in Randomized Block Design with four replications having two plants per replication. Evaluation of parental inbreds revealed that Pusa Dwarf (PD) was dwarf and low-flowering. Pusa Nanha (PN) flowered earlier, gave large fruits and maximum yield.
