Reliability of Logicon caries detector in the detection and depth assessment of dental caries: An in-vitro study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Research, 2011
Background: Digital radiography has so far not resulted in improved rates of proximal caries detection. Historically, automated caries detection tools have been largely academic.

Residual Caries Detection Using Visible Fluorescence

open access: yesCaries Research, 2002
This study investigated the ability of a new fluorescence method to detect residual caries in vitro. Gross caries was removed from 40 teeth with D2 caries. Samples were excited with violet-blue light and viewed through a 530-nm high-pass filter. Residual caries (orange-red fluorescing dentin) was detected in all samples.

Prevalence and local factors associated with radiographic bone loss in primary dentition: A retrospective study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study aimed to evaluate the radiographic bone level in primary molars in a Brazilian population, define the prevalence of bone loss, and identify the local factors associated with early bone alterations. Methods Radiographs of children who attended Piracicaba Dental School (Brazil) between 2014 and 2020 were evaluated.

The impact of ICDAS on occlusal caries treatment recommendations for high caries risk patients: an in vitro study

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2019
Background The diagnostic criteria and tools used in caries lesion detection have been shown to affect the decision-making for caries treatment. Compared to other diagnostic criteria/classifications, ICDAS has been shown to provide a more accurate method

Association between serum α‐Klotho levels and severity of periodontitis in a representative U.S. population

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease, is linked to systemic conditions such as cardiovascular and kidney disease. Serum α‐Klotho, an anti‐aging protein with anti‐inflammatory properties, has been associated with systemic diseases, but its role in periodontitis is unclear.

New Caries Diagnostic Methods

open access: yes, 2016
Several noninvasive physicochemical methods have been developed during the last two decades to detect, measure, and monitor early caries lesions. Among these, the laser-induced fl uorescence method is probably the best-tested technology.

Immunomodulators, associated or not with systemic antibiotics, to treat periodontitis: A 1‐year multicenter, placebo‐controlled, double‐blind, randomized clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Immunomodulatory agents such as omega‐3 (ω‐3) and low‐dose aspirin (ASA) have been proposed as effective adjuncts in the treatment of periodontitis. However, they still lack long‐term studies and head‐to‐head evaluation with metronidazole (MTZ) and amoxicillin (AMX), the adjunct protocol with the strongest scientific evidence of ...

Salivary Diagnosis of Dental Caries: A Systematic Review

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
The activity of dental caries, combined with its multifactorial etiology, alters salivary molecule composition. The present systematic review was developed to answer the following question: “Are salivary biomarkers reliable for diagnosis of dental caries?

Twenty‐four month clinical outcomes of modified coronally advanced tunnel technique with leukocyte‐ and platelet‐rich fibrin–functionalized porcine dermal matrix for single/multiple gingival recessions

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background To report 24‐month clinical and 3D outcomes of single and multiple RT1 and RT2 gingival recessions treated with the modified coronally advanced tunnel (MCAT) technique and an L‐PRF‐functionalized porcine dermal matrix (PDM), as long‐term data on PDM in root coverage are scarce.
