Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

More Than an Antioxidant: Role of Dietary Astaxanthin on Lipid and Glucose Metabolism in the Liver of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
This study investigated the influence of dietary astaxanthin (AX) on glucose and lipid metabolism in rainbow trout liver. Two iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipidic diets were tested for 12 weeks in rainbow trout with an initial mean weight of 309 g. The S-ASTA

The fat-derived hormone adiponectin alleviates alcoholic and nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Adiponectin has recently been shown to be a promising candidate for the treatment of obesity-associated metabolic syndromes. Replenishment of recombinant adiponectin in mice can decrease hyperglycemia, reverse insulin resistance, and cause sustained ...

Overview of Encapsulated Lysine and Methionine and Their Impacts on Transition Cow Performance and Health

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The transition period in dairy cows, spanning 3 weeks before and after calving, is a critical phase characterized by increased nutrient demands, reduced dry matter intake (DMI), and elevated risk of metabolic disorders such as negative nutrient balance (NNB), lipolysis, proteolysis, and oxidative stress.

cpt1b Regulates Cardiomyocyte Proliferation Through Modulation of Glutamine Synthetase in Zebrafish

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease
Carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1b (Cpt1b) is a crucial rate-limiting enzyme in fatty acid metabolism, but its role and mechanism in early cardiac development remains unclear. Here, we show that cpt1b regulates cardiomyocyte proliferation during zebrafish

Phloretin Suppresses Preadipocyte Differentiation by Targeting PPARγ/Transferrin to Activate Ferroptosis Signaling Pathway

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Phloretin alleviates HFD‐induced obesity and suppresses adipogenesis by activating the ferroptosis pathway, potentially via targeting PPARγ and transferrin. ABSTRACT Phloretin, a plant‐derived dihydrochalcone bioactive compound, potentially modulates preadipocyte differentiation, although this remains controversial and requires further clarification ...

Lingonberry Improves Hepatic Lipid Metabolism by Targeting Notch1 Signaling

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
Impaired hepatic lipid metabolism is a hallmark of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which has no effective treatment option. Recently, Notch signaling has been identified as an important mediator of hepatic lipid metabolism.

Topology of carnitine palmitoyltransferase I in the mitochondrial outer membrane [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1997
The topology of carnitine palmitoyltransferase I (CPT I) in the outer membrane of rat liver mitochondria was studied using several approaches. 1. The accessibility of the active site and malonyl-CoA-binding site of the enzyme from the cytosolic aspect of the membrane was investigated using preparations of octanoyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA immobilized on to ...
