Os Carnívoros são muito diversos em termos de forma, tamanho e função ecológica, com pesos que variam entre 35 g (doninha) e 800 Kg (urso polar). Nem todos são carnívoros no sentido estrito, mas todos possuem dentes carniceiros e, geralmente, mandíbulas fortes.
