Sacrificing Internal Carotid Artery-External Carotid Artery-Radial Artery-Middle Cerebral Artery Bypass for the Treatment of Complex Intracranial Artery Cavernous Sinus Aneurysms

The Journal of craniofacial surgery (Print)
The treatment of complex intracranial aneurysms has always been a great challenge in neurosurgery. Craniotomy has a high risk of clipping, there is a risk of rupture at any time, endovascular embolization is relatively low risk, but expensive and easy to

External carotid artery to ophthalmic artery flow associated with internal carotid artery stenosis

Orbit, 2022
One of the most devastating complications of facial filler injection is sudden ischemic blindness. However, its mechanisms and predisposing factors are poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of external carotid artery (ECA) to ophthalmic artery (OA) anterograde flow in patients with internal carotid artery (ICA ...

Spontaneous external carotid artery occlusion

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1989
AbstractThe case of a 64-year-old man who presented with severe left sided facial pain and cyanosis of the left ear, preauricular region and tongue is described. Digital subtraction angiography confirmed complete occlusion of the left external carotid artery.

Revascularization of the External Carotid Artery

Archives of Surgery, 1988
Numerous reports describe the relative effectiveness of external carotid artery (ECA) revascularization in patients with ipsilateral internal carotid artery occlusion. Most, however, suffer from small numbers of patients or lack of detailed follow-up data. In addition, controversy persists regarding the safety with which this procedure can be performed.

External Carotid Artery

2011
The external carotid artery (ECA) arises from the common carotid bifurcation at the C4 vertebral level. A more proximal or distal origin can occur. Variants of the level of the carotid bifurcation are described in Chap. 2. These variants also involve indirectly the origin of the ECA. The ECA may originate directly from the aortic arch.

Arteriovenous Fistula of External Carotid Artery

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1968
ARTERIOVENOUS fistulas of the face and neck are rare clinical entities but do occur either as congenital disorders or as the result of trauma. Flynn and Mulder 1 define the congenital arteriovenous fistula as a nontraumatic vascular abnormality in which the arterial blood passes into the venous system without traversing the capillary bed.

External Carotid Artery

The external carotid artery (ECA) arises from the bifurcation of the common carotid artery (CCA), usually at the level of the third and fourth cervical vertebrae. The superior thyroid artery (STA) can arise from a common trunk with the lingual artery as the thyrolingual trunk, or with the lingual and facial arteries as the thyrolinguofacial trunk ...

External Carotid Dissection and External Carotid Proatlantal Intersegmental Artery with Subclavian Steal Prompting External Carotid and Subclavian Artery Stenting

Journal of Neuroimaging, 2013
ABSTRACTBACKGROUND AND PURPOSEThe authors describe a case of a proatlantal intersegmental artery seen in the setting of external carotid artery dissection and subclavian steal due to proximal subclavian artery stenosis.METHODSAn 83‐year‐old woman presented with left homonymous hemianopsia and a right posterior cerebral artery distribution stroke.

External Carotid Artery Shunting During Carotid Endarterectomy

Archives of Surgery, 1974
The contribution of the external carotid artery to cerebral blood flow was evaluated in eight patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy. With restoration of external carotid artery flow, the internal carotid artery back pressure was augmented by an average of 20.9%. This represented a mean rise in internal carotid artery back pressure of 10.8 mm Hg, a

Contralateral external carotid-to-external carotid artery (half-collar) saphenous vein graft for common carotid artery occlusion

Surgical Neurology, 1996
In a patient having common carotid artery occlusion complicated with contralateral internal carotid artery stenosis, a saphenous vein bypass graft was performed from the contralateral external carotid artery to the ipsilateral external carotid artery simultaneously with contralateral carotid endarterectomy.
