Internal Carotid Artery Hypoplasia Misidentified as Internal Carotid Artery Dissection
Agenesis or hypoplasia of the internal carotid artery (ICA) may easily be confused with dissection or occlusion. We report a case of a 24-year-old female with complaint of acute left-hand hypoesthesia and a history of occasional intermittent numbness of her right hand with myoclonic jerking.

Non-invasive Evaluation of Aortic Stiffness Dependence with Aortic Blood Pressure and Internal Radius by Shear Wave Elastography and Ultrafast Imaging [PDF]
Elastic properties of arteries have long been recognized as playing a major role in the cardiovascular system. However, non-invasive in vivo assessment of local arterial stiffness remains challenging and imprecise as current techniques rely on indirect estimates such as wall deformation or pulse wave velocity.

Inflammatory markers in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis
Introduction Available reports underline the significance of the inflammatory process in the development, progression and destabilisation of atherosclerotic plaques in the internal carotid artery (ICA).

Surface Metrology of Cerebral Arteries Luminal Surface [PDF]
Atherosclerotic lesions within carotid and cerebral vessels are likely to influence hemodynamics and manifest into vascular pathologies, including Alzheimers Disease and ischemic stroke. Hemodynamics are influenced by changes in luminal diameter of vessels and wall shear stress derived from turbulence, which directly relates to the surface topography ...

Area-preserving mapping of 3D ultrasound carotid artery images using density-equalizing reference map [PDF]
Carotid atherosclerosis is a focal disease at the bifurcations of the carotid artery. To quantitatively monitor the local changes in the vessel-wall-plus-plaque thickness (VWT) and compare the VWT distributions for different patients or for the same patients at different ultrasound scanning sessions, a mapping technique is required to adjust for the ...

BACKGROUND The combined thickness of the intima and media of the carotid artery is associated with the prevalence of cardiovascular disease. We studied the associations between the thickness of the carotid-artery intima and media and the incidence of new

An Integrated Visual Analytics System for Studying Clinical Carotid Artery Plaques [PDF]
Carotid artery plaques can cause arterial vascular diseases such as stroke and myocardial infarction, posing a severe threat to human life. However, the current clinical examination mainly relies on a direct assessment by physicians of patients' clinical indicators and medical images, lacking an integrated visualization tool for analyzing the ...
