Alzheimer's Association clinical practice guideline for the Diagnostic Evaluation, Testing, Counseling, and Disclosure of Suspected Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (DETeCD‐ADRD): Executive summary of recommendations for primary care

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, EarlyView.
Abstract US clinical practice guidelines for the diagnostic evaluation of cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) or AD and related dementias (ADRD) are decades old and aimed at specialists. This evidence‐based guideline was developed to empower all—including primary care—clinicians to implement a structured approach for evaluating a ...

Successful repair of blunt injury of aortic arch branches in the setting of bovine arch [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Intrathoracic great vessels injuries are usually fatal and represent a special surgical challenge. We report a successful surgical repair for blunt disruption of the three aortic arch branches in the setting of bovine arch anatomy.

Dual‐energy X‐ray absorptiometry for detecting neurogenic pulmonary edema in a mouse model of subarachnoid hemorrhage

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Using a murine model of SAH, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed to confirm subarachnoid clot formation in the T2*‐weighted images sequence (left). Chest micro‐CT and DXA were performed to measure, respectively, the Hounsfield units (HU) and lean mass (LM) (middle) in order to test their relationship and ability to detect post‐SAH NPE (

Stenting in Zone II Stab Wounds of Carotid Arteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present three cases of endovascular treatment of a cervical Zone II carotid artery pseudoaneurysm and arteriovenous fistulae following stab wounds using covered Wall-graft stents in three male patients.

Influence of the arterial elastic component on the response to balloon angioplasty in femoral arteries of a healthy porcine model

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study evaluates the role of elastin in vascular response 28 days after balloon angioplasty using uncoated and paclitaxel‐coated balloons in a healthy porcine model. The results show higher elastin content in external femoral arteries, which is inversely correlated with vascular injury, inflammation, smooth muscle cell loss, proteoglycan and fibrin

Endoscopic Repair of Carotid Artery Injury

open access: yesotolaryngology, 2015
Background: Injury to the cavernous portion of the Internal Carotid Artery (ICA) during endoscopic skull base surgery is a well-recognized rare complication, which can be associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Many techniques have been suggested to manage ICA injury with varying degrees of success. A detailed technical description of an

Differentiation of multipotent vascular stem cells contributes to vascular diseases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
It is generally accepted that the de-differentiation of smooth muscle cells, from the contractile to the proliferative/synthetic phenotype, has an important role during vascular remodelling and diseases.

Animal models of lung cancer: Phenotypic comparison of different animal models of lung cancer and their application in the study of mechanisms

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Grafts used to construct lung cancer animal models come from various sources, primarily cell lines, patient‐derived tumor tissues, and circulating tumor cells. Based on the sources of grafts and research objectives, lung cancer animal models can be categorized into several types: chemical‐induced models, orthotopic transplantation models, heterotopic ...

Endovascular repair for acute traumatic transection of the descending thoracic aorta: experience of a single centre with a 12-years follow up [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Most blunt aortic injuries occur in the proximal proximal descending aorta causing acute transection of this vessel. Generally, surgical repair of the ruptured segment of aorta is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality and in

Acute management of poor condition subarachnoid hemorrhage patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Poor condition subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients present a high mortality and morbidity. In this study, we reviewed the acute interventional (surgical and endovascular) management of 109 SAH-poor condition patients, who were treated as early as ...
