Carotid artery stenting compared with endarterectomy in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis (International Carotid Stenting Study): an interim analysis of a randomised controlled trial [PDF]
Background Stents are an alternative treatment to carotid endarterectomy for symptomatic carotid stenosis, but previous trials have not established equivalent safety and efficacy.

Carotid stenosis, stroke, and carotid artery revascularization
Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, 2021Atherosclerotic disease of the carotid artery places patients at risk of ischemic stroke and consequently is a target of medical, endovascular and open surgical management. Various imaging modalities are used to characterize anatomy/severity of carotid disease and justify intervention, each having advantages and disadvantages. Carotid revascularization

Symptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis
Seminars in Neurology, 2014The management of patients with extracranial carotid artery stenosis remains controversial. Randomized controlled studies established the value of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) over optimal medical therapy for patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis.

Stenting for carotid artery stenosis
Nature Clinical Practice Neurology, 2007Stenting has increasingly been used for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis, although it is still unknown whether it is as safe and successful as carotid endarterectomy. Several studies have been published, and the preliminary results have been variable, with evidence both in favor of and against this procedure.

Asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis
Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2007Severe asymptomatic carotid stenosis is associated with a stroke risk of approximately 2% per annum. Aggressive management of risk factors is recommended, including cessation of smoking, and treatment of hypertension, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia. Patients should be treated with antiplatelet agents.

Management of carotid artery stenosis: A review
International Journal of Angiology, 1999Carotid endarterectomy clearly benefits high stroke-risk patients, but its value for asymptomatic patients is still being debated. If a high exposure is necessary for redo procedures or distal aneurysms, mandibular subluxation and styloidectomy may be required. Perioperative mortality and morbidity are acceptably low.

Surgery for carotid artery stenosis
Medical Journal of Australia, 1991point, the children’s depression rating scale (CDRS-R; P = 0.10), but this was not mentioned in the abstract. This and the small or absent advantages of fluoxetine on other end points (table) and in other studies, 3 shows that fluoxetine, like all other antidepressants, is of doubtful clinical importance for children.
