Robotic assisted carotid artery stenting for the treatment of symptomatic carotid disease: technical feasibility and preliminary results

Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, 2020
Background and purpose Robotic-assisted endovascular interventions have been increasingly performed in the coronary and peripheral vascular beds. We aim to describe the feasibility and initial safety of a robotic-assisted platform for treating carotid ...

Carotid Artery Stenting

DeckerMed Surgery, 2019
In addition to medical therapy and carotid endarterectomy (CEA), carotid artery stenting (CAS) is a treatment option for carotid stenosis. Multi-centered clinical trials showed that CAS has a similar composite outcome of stroke, death, and MI to CEA.  However,  CAS has a higher stroke complication than CEA.

Carotid artery stenting [PDF]

open access: possible, 2008
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the developed world. Internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis is a major correctable cause of ischaemic stroke, the risk being related to the degree of stenosis and the presence of recent symptoms. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) has become the preferred method of treatment for patients with asymptomatic or ...

Carotid artery stenting

Heart, 2016
### Learning objectives After reading this article the reader should: In western countries, stroke is the fourth leading cause of death, after heart disease, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases.1 Carotid artery disease may be responsible for 10–15% of all ischaemic strokes.2 Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have established the benefit of ...

Carotid artery stenting: to be or not to be?

The Surgeon, 2008
Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) has been the standard of care for suitable patients with symptomatic or asymptomatic high grade carotid stenosis since the landmark NASCET (North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial), ECST (European Carotid Surgery Trial) and ACAS (Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Surgery) studies performed in the 1990s and more ...

Stenting of the carotid artery

Surgery (Oxford), 2004
Abstract Atherosclerosis of the carotid artery accounts for more than 35% of all strokes. This contribution discusses the data from randomized clinical trials comparing stenting with surgery.

Stenting for carotid artery stenosis [PDF]

open access: possibleNature Clinical Practice Neurology, 2007
Stenting has increasingly been used for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis, although it is still unknown whether it is as safe and successful as carotid endarterectomy. Several studies have been published, and the preliminary results have been variable, with evidence both in favor of and against this procedure.

Nationwide Trends in Carotid Endarterectomy and Carotid Artery Stenting in the Post-CREST Era

Stroke, 2019
Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text. Background and Purpose— The CREST (Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial) demonstrated equivalent composite outcomes between carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery ...

Carotid Artery Stenting Update

Future Cardiology, 2013
Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the most common cause of long-term disability in the USA. Approximately 25% of strokes are due to carotid artery disease. The mechanisms of stroke include thrombotic occlusion, thrombus embolism, atheroembolism and dissection or subintimal hematoma.
