Relationship Between Carotid Artery Anatomy and Geometry and White Matter Hyperintensities and Accompanying Comorbid Factors

open access: yesTomography
Background/Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between carotid artery anatomy and geometry and white matter hyperintensities (WMH) and to determine whether it is a risk factor for the disease. Methods: The geometry and anatomy of

Salvianolic Acid a Disrupts the HSP90α‐AKT‐PERK Ternary Complex to Alleviate Atherosclerosis by Activating Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress of Senescent Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Salvianolic acid A (SAA) selectively induces senescent vascular smooth muscle cell apoptosis, alleviating atherosclerosis. Mechanistically, SAA targets heat shock protein 90 alpha (HSP90α) to disrupt the protein inase B (AKT)‐PRKR‐Like Endoplasmic Reticulum Kinase (PERK) scaffold, driving ubiquitin‐proteasome‐dependent AKT degradation.

High‐Shear Environment Promotes Acute Carotid Stent Thrombosis in Patients With Tandem Lesions

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Stent thrombosis is a serious complication of angioplasty with stenting, as evidenced by the associated morbidity and mortality events. Its incidence is particularly elevated after emergent carotid stenting in patients with acute ischemic ...

Co-prevalence of extracranial carotid aneurysms differs between European intracranial aneurysm cohorts.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:Previously, we showed that co-prevalence of extracranial carotid artery aneurysms (ECAAs) in patients with intracranial aneurysms (IAs) was 2% in a Dutch cohort.

Remote Ischemic Post‐Conditioning Preserves the Neurovascular Unit by Brain‐Derived Gas6 That Drives Monocyte‐Derived Macrophage Reprogramming via Axl and Vimentin after SAH

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) triggers monocyte‐derived macrophage (MDM) infiltration and M1‐like polarization via Vimentin upregulation, leading to neurovascular unit disruption and cognitive dysfunction. Remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPostC) upregulates neuronal Gas6, which activates Axl on MDMs to downregulate Vimentin and drive reparative M2 ...

Blood flow analysis in carotid artery bifurcation by two-dimensional ultrasonic-measurement-integrated simulation

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2014
If highly precise elucidation of the blood flow characteristics in a carotid bifurcation was possible, it would be widely applicable to diagnosis of circulatory diseases such as arteriosclerosis and cerebrovascular disease.

A critical reappraisal of the carotid sinus and carotid bulb: Distinguishing neurohistological function from vascular geometry

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
This review redefines the carotid bulb (CB) as a variable geometric dilation shaped by hemodynamics and the carotid sinus (CS) as a conserved neurohistological baroreceptor field. Distinguishing these entities clarifies a century of anatomical confusion and links geometry, neurohistology, and clinical interpretation within a unified framework ...
