Carotid body tumor resection utilizing a covered stent graft to enable resection of the tumor en bloc with the internal carotid artery [PDF]
Surgical excision is the primary treatment for carotid body tumors (CBT) and infrequently involves carotid vessels reconstruction. A CBT that extends distally to the level of the skull base makes surgical reconstruction very challenging. We report a case

Carotid body tumors are the most common paragangliomas of head and neck. Most of these tumors are benign with a small malignant potential. Although newer non-invasive diagnostic modalities have significantly enhanced the diagnostic capabilities, controversy exists over adequate management of these rare tumors.

Extracellular Matrix Targeted MRI Probes
Gadolinium based MRI probes targeted to ECM components, either proteins or enzymes, hold promise for accurate molecular characterization and staging of fibrotic diseases in vivo. Non‐covalent binding probes (1), reactive probes (2), and enzyme‐responsive probes (3) are discussed.

Abstract Objective This study sought to evaluate the feasibility of multifunctional gastrodin (GAS)‐containing nano‐drug carrier system against cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury (CIRI). Methods The drug‐loaded nanocomposite (Au‐G5.NHAc‐PS/GAS) with certain encapsulation efficiency (EE) was prepared by physical adsorption method using different ...

Vascular co‐option and vasculogenic mimicry mediate resistance to antiangiogenic strategies
Abstract Background The concept that all the tumors need the formation of new vessels to grow inspired the hypothesis that inhibition of angiogenesis would have led to “cure” cancer. The expectancy that this type of therapy would have avoided the insurgence of resistance was based on the concept that targeting normal vessels, instead of the cancer ...

Carotid body paragangliomas were diagnosed by Doppler ultrasound, carotid artery angiography, and cranial computed tomography in a 35-year-old man with a mass in the neck and hearing loss, and in a 42-year-old man with headache, syncope, and a mass in the neck. They underwent successful surgical excision.

Abstract Epilepsy syndromes during the early years of life may be attributed to an acquired insult, such as hypoxic–ischemic injury, infection, status epilepticus, or brain trauma. These conditions are frequently modeled in experimental rodents to delineate mechanisms of epileptogenesis and investigate novel therapeutic strategies.
