Angiogenesis regulators as a possible key to accelerated growth of secondary tumors following primary tumor resection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Resection of primary tumors is often followed by accelerated growth of metastases. Here we propose that this effect may be due to the fact that resection of primary tumor results in a decrease in the total systemic amount of angiogenesis stimulators, such as VEGF and bFGF.

Hybrid treatment of a carotid body tumor

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2017
Carotid body tumors are rare neuroendocrine tumors. Surgical intervention is indicated if symptoms due to enlargement or malignancy suspected; however, traditional operation can cause significant blood loss and carry high risks of morbidity.

A New Model of Thermal Propagation in Human Tissue by Using HIFU Application [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In outside the body HIFU treatment that focused ultrasound beams hit severely with cancer tissue layer especially the soft one, at the time of passage of the body different layers as long as they want to reach tumor, put their own way components under mechanical and even thermal influence and they can cause skin lesions.

Optimal Surface Marker Locations for Tumor Motion Estimation in Lung Cancer Radiotherapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Using fiducial markers on patient's body surface to predict the tumor location is a widely used approach in lung cancer radiotherapy. The purpose of this work is to propose an algorithm that automatically identifies a sparse set of locations on the patient's surface with the optimal prediction power for the tumor motion. The sparse selection of markers

The Importance of Flowmetry in Carotid Body Tumor Surgery: A Case Report

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Medicine, 2012
Carotid body tumors arise from the embryonic neural crest. These tumors are mostly benign, and they rarely show character. Bifurcation of the carotid body cells originates from a common carotid paraganglion; a tumoral mass lateral to the carotid ...

Magnetic resonance and computed tomography imaging of a carotid body tumor in a dog

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2012
A 5-year-old castrated male Labrador Retriever was presented to a referring veterinarian for a swelling in the neck region. Based on the results of histopathology, a carotid body tumor, was diagnosed.

Superselective carotid body tumor embolization with platinum-based coils

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques, 2021
Resection of Shamblin II and III carotid body tumors can be challenging owing to the potential for significant blood loss. Prophylactic use of liquid embolic agents poses a risk of inflammatory reactions and nontarget embolization.

Multiple paragangliomas involving carotid body and vagal region

open access: yesFormosan Journal of Surgery, 2019
Paragangliomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors also known to occur in the head-and-neck regions and generally involve the carotid body or vagal region. Till date, only a single study has reported the occurrence of paragangliomas involving both the carotid
