Carotid Stenting for Restenosis after Endarterectomy

CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology, 2010
Restenosis after carotid endarterectomy (CEA) has been described in 8-19% of patients, 14-23% of whom become symptomatic. This study analyzes our experience with carotid artery stenting (CAS) for post-CEA recurrent stenoses.Retrospective database and case-note review.Between January 2000 and September 2008, a total of 27 patients (15 symptomatic) with ...

Restenosis After Carotid Endarterectomy

Vascular Surgery, 1987
Fifty endarterectomies of the internal carotid artery have been performed on 43 patients from March, 1984, to December, 1985. There were no perioperative or hospital deaths. The permeability of the operated vessel was confirmed by Doppler or angiography in every case.

Restenosis After Carotid Endarterectomy

Vascular Surgery, 1982
The recurrence of transient ischemic attacks (TIA's) after carotid endarterectomy is an unusual occurrence. We recently studied a patient who had restenosis and recurrence of TIA's months to years after three different carotid endarterectomies, all done on the same carotid bifurcation. This unusual case represents an extreme example of the association

Carotid brachytherapy for in‐stent restenosis

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2002
AbstractCarotid stenting has emerged as an alternative revascularization modality to endarterectomy for the treatment of carotid artery disease. Restenosis of a carotid stent may be occasionally seen. Our experience in intravascular radiation therapy for coronary restenosis has provided us the opportunity to explore this treatment strategy for carotid ...

Carotid stent fracture and restenosis management

Vascular Medicine, 2011
We report an unusual case of asymptomatic accelerated right carotid artery in-stent restenosis in a patient referred for revascularization of a de novo stenosis of her left internal carotid artery.

Significance of Carotid Restenosis following Endarterectomy

Cerebrovascular Diseases, 1998
Background and Purpose: The clinical significance of restenosis after carotid endarterectomy as detected by duplex ultrasound has not been clearly established. To address this problem, we retrospectively evaluated the experience at two university-affiliated hospitals.

Evolution of Carotid Restenosis After Endarterectomy

Cardiovascular Surgery, 1994
Some 176 consecutive carotid endarterectomies performed during 1987 were assessed after 11.5 and 44 months. There were four perioperative deaths. At mean follow-up of 32.5 months the 50% restenosis rate progressed from 9.7% to 11.9%. Of the 168 carotid arteries with a normal patency at discharge, 36 showed progression of stenoses as Judged by duplex ...

Restenosis Following Carotid E ndarterectomy

Archives of Surgery, 1985
This study evaluated the efficacy of duplex ultrasonographic scanning in assessing the status of carotid arteries after 155 endarterectomies in 131 patients. Duplex studies were done as early as one month and as late as 96 months postoperatively; 33 patients had serial studies.

Symptomatic carotid restenosis.

The Journal of cardiovascular surgery, 1989
Between May, 1969, and December, 1985, 680 carotid endarterectomies were carried out in the Surgical Professorial Unit in St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. Recurrence requiring re-operation was detected in nine arteries in seven patients. Continued smoking after the initial operation may have contributed to the restenoses.

Carotid Artery Restenosis: Ultrasonographic Characteristics

Journal for Vascular Ultrasound, 2011
Introduction The purpose of our study was to evaluate the ultrasonographic characteristics of recurrent carotid stenosis in patients submitted to carotid endarterectomy with patch angioplasty. Methods We performed carotid ultrasound examinations on patients who had undergone unilateral carotid endarterectomy between 2002 and 2009.
