Lipoprotein(a) Concentration and Cardiovascular Disease in a Group of Patients With Familial Hypercholesterolemia—A Lipid Clinic Experience

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 48, Issue 5, May 2025.
Average Lp(a) levels were significantly higher in FH patients with coronary artery disease compared to those without. However, no differences in Lp(a) levels were found between patients with or without carotid plaques after adjustment for sex and age.

Effects of balloon injury on neointimal hyperplasia in steptozotocin-induced diabetes and in hyperinsulinemic nondiabetic pancreatic islet-transplanted rats. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
BACKGROUND: The mechanisms of increased neointimal hyperplasia after coronary interventions in diabetic patients are still unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS: Glucose and insulin effects on in vitro vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation and ...

Factors Influencing Decision Making for Carotid Endarterectomy versus Stenting in the Very Elderly

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2017
As the population ages worldwide, the number of elderly patients with carotid stenosis is also increasing. There have been many large clinical trials comparing carotid endarterectomy (CAE) versus stenting, but the inclusion criteria (i.e., symptomatic or

Evaluation of Treatment Response and Survival Outcomes in Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer Patients Following Surgery With and Without Other Treatment Modalities: A Systematic Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a rare type of malignancy ranking among the most aggressive diseases globally, with an extremely poor prognosis. No optimal standardized treatment has been established yet to promote ATC's prognosis and increase the patients' median survival.

Safety/Efficacy of a Pusher, Thermal Detachment Coil for Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysms: A Multicenter Real‐World Study

open access: yesJournal of Neuroimaging, Volume 35, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Purpose Optima coils are a new type of embolic coils with complex and WAVE shape properties and variable degrees of softness. In patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms, we examined the safety (periprocedural complications) and efficacy (occlusion rate immediately postprocedure) of the Optima coil.

Cerebral embolic lesions detected with diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging following carotid artery stenting: a meta-analysis of 8 studies comparing filter cerebral protection and proximal balloon occlusion. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate and compare the efficacy of the 2 different neuroprotection systems in preventing embolization during carotid artery stenting (CAS), as detected by diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging ...
