Computed tomographic arthrography of the coxofemoral joint in horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Background Investigation of pathology relating to the coxofemoral joint (CFJ) in horses includes intra‐articular analgesia and diagnostic imaging using ultrasonography, radiography, scintigraphy and computed tomography (CT). While CT arthrography has been described for diagnosing intra‐articular ligament and cartilage injuries in different ...

Therapeutic preferences and perceived outcomes for equine subchondral lucencies: An international survey

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Background Subchondral lucencies (SCLs), also referred to as subchondral cystic lesions or osseous cyst‐like lesions, are associated with lameness and reduced performance in horses. Management options are diverse, evidence is heterogeneous and direct comparisons are limited; current therapeutic preferences are poorly described.

A pathological fracture of the scaphoid revealing an intraosseous ganglion cyst

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2016
Intraosseous ganglion cyst is a benign bone lesion with histological similarities to the soft tissue ganglion cyst. Its location on the short bones, including the carpal bones has rarely been reported.

How do forelimb long bones adapt in rhinoceroses? An in‐depth examination of their microanatomy

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Here, we study the bone structure in the forelimb long bones of the five extant species of rhinoceroses. By combining traditional description of virtual sections made on the bones (A) with in‐depth cartographies of the variation of bone compactness and anisotropy (B), we show how bone tissue can adapt to extreme forces and constraints in the second ...

Morphofunctional effects of captivity on the microanatomy of the talus bone in a wild ungulate (Sus scrofa)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Our study explores the plastic changes induced by captivity on the microanatomy of the talus of wild boars, revealing denser bone with tighter trabecular networks but a lower relative maximum thickness of compact bone. These plastic adaptations can serve to detect early processes of domestication in the archaeological record.
