Functional Morphology of the Scaphoid in Extant African Apes, Humans and Fossil Hominins

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 188, Issue 4, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Objectives The morphology of the hominoid scaphoid has played a key role in functional and evolutionary hypotheses related to the emergence of hominin bipedalism and tool use. However, the scaphoid's complex morphology is challenging to comparatively analyze via traditional 2D linear measurements.

Effectiveness of Interventions to Reduce Carbon‐Emissions Within Secondary Healthcare: Systematic Review and Evidence and Gap Map

open access: yesCampbell Systematic Reviews, Volume 21, Issue 4, December 2025.
ABSTRACT ‘The climate emergency is also a health emergency’ (England 2024). Climate change directly impacts the health of the human population through events such as earthquakes, flooding, heatwaves and drought, which increase the risk of injury, displacement, disruption of food supplies, infectious diseases and mental ill health (England 2024; Lenzen ...

Evaluation of the Quality and Reliability of ChatGPT‐4's Responses on Allergen Immunotherapy Using Validated Instruments for Health Information Quality Assessment

open access: yesClinical and Translational Allergy, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Chat Generative Pre‐Trained Transformer 4 (ChatGPT‐4) represents an advancing large language model (LLM) with potential applications in medical education and patient care. While Allergen Immunotherapy (AIT) can change the course of allergic diseases, it can also bring uncertainty to patients, who turn to readily available resources ...

A new staging system for hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis in the era of specific amyloidosis therapies

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 6, Page 4125-4139, December 2025.
The aim of our study was to develop a more accurate staging system for hereditary ATTR patients currently receiving specific treatment. A staging system was created using as criteria: GLS ≤ −11%, NT‐proBNP ≤ 2,000 ng/L, and eGFR ≤ 65 mL/min. We managed to accurately stratify patients into three disease stages, significantly different in terms of ...

Ultrasonographic Evaluation of Peripheral Nerves for Early Diagnosis of Guillain–Barré Syndrome: A Case‐Control Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim Guillain‐Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute immune‐mediated neuropathy in which early diagnosis remains challenging because nerve conduction studies (NCS) may appear normal in the first few days after onset. Ultrasonography (US) has recently gained attention as a non‐invasive tool for evaluating peripheral nerve pathology ...

High‐Resolution Ultrasound of Clinically Relevant Sensory Nerves of the Arm and the Forearm

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasound in Medicine, Volume 44, Issue 12, Page 2209-2228, December 2025.
Technological advancements in ultrasound systems, particularly the development of high‐ and ultra‐high‐frequency transducers, now allow for the detailed evaluation of sub‐millimetric sensory nerves in the upper limb, extending to their distal branches. This provides invaluable insights in patients with suspected neuropathies.
