Application of Multi‐Method Dating for Understanding the Gravettian North of Moravia, Central Europe

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article presents the results of integrating three methods to assess the age of the Upper Palaeolithic site of Pietraszyn 11 (SW Poland), close to the Moravian Gate. Sediment chronology determined using optically stimulated luminescence produced promising, yet ambiguous results (51.0 ± 3.7 to 20.3 ± 0.7 ka).

STRATIGRAPHY OF NEOGENE DEPOSITS OF THE UKRAINIAN CARPATHIANS AND FORE-CARPATHIANS

open access: yesTectonics and Stratigraphy, 2011
The new version of the regional stratigraphical scheme of Neogene deposits of the Ukrainian Outer Carpathians and its foreland were proposed. The results of the investigation of the planktonic microfossils allows to establish ten correlative levels, which were tacen as a basis for the correlation of prodused scheme with the International Geological ...

Palaeoenvironmental and climatic changes from the lateglacial of the Saalian to the Late Weichselian in central Poland: a multiproxy study from Józefów

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Józefów site is a case study which provides a detailed record of environmental and climate changes and confirms the main traces of the landscape morphogenesis of the Late Pleistocene established in central‐eastern Europe. This study presents a multiproxy reconstruction of palaeoenvironment under variable climatic conditions from the retreat of the ...

Peatland vegetation of the Syra Pogonia massif of the Rivneskyi Nature Reserve (Polissia, Ukraine): ecological characteristics

open access: yesБіологічні студії
Background. Peat bog complexes are self-sufficient ecosystems in which unique microclimatic conditions leading to a significant diversity of valuable plant communities are formed.

Dark diversity of flea (Siphonaptera) assemblages in South American rodents: Latitudinal and altitudinal gradients

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
The dark diversity of compound flea communities increased from north to south. The dark diversity of compound flea communities increased from lower to higher altitudes. The dark diversity of component flea communities also increased from north to south but did not vary with altitude.

Downstream fining trends of gravel bar sediments: a case study of Czech Carpathian rivers

open access: yesActa Universitatis Carolinae Geographica, 2020
This study examines downstream grain-size trends in gravel bars, a typical feature of natural gravel-bed rivers, from two neighbouring heavily channelized rivers: the Lubina River and the Ondřejnice River draining the Czech part of the Outer Western ...

Investigating transthyretin variants H88R and I107V in amyloid priming: From destabilization to complete dissociation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Investigated mutations in transthyretin (TTR) disrupt the F87‐centered hydrophobic core that stabilizes its tetrameric structure. The mild I107V mutation weakens inter‐chain packing, while H88R fully abolishes tetramer formation, yielding a monomeric, aggregation‐prone form. Structural, biophysical, and computational analyses reveal that both mutations

Water exchange of the forest ecosystems epigeic bryophytes depending on changes of the structural and functional organization of their turfs and the influence of local growth environmental conditions

open access: yesБіологічні студії
Background. Moss cover plays a decisive role in increasing soil moisture in forest ecosystems. Bryophytes with high water content can significantly reduce water evaporation from the soil surface and retain it for an extended time.

Hermit beetle (Osmoderma barnabita) habitat selection and movement are shaped by tree microhabitat availability in Eastern Romanian Carpathians

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
We conducted the first radio‐tracking study on Osmoderma barnabita to examine the movement ecology and habitat selection in the Eastern Carpathians. A female recorded the longest movement distance and had larger home ranges than males. It showed a preference for Quercus petraea, with wood mould cavities and DBH as key predictors.
