Influence of Van der Waals Interactions on the Solvation Energies of Adsorbates at Pt‐Based Electrocatalysts

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 20, Issue 22, Page 2968-2972, November 19, 2019., 2019
Water solvation modifies the adsorption energies of *OH, and therefore, also the oxygen‐reduction activity of Pt electrocatalysts. The authors show that *OH solvation on Pt(111) near‐surface alloys depends on the exchange‐correlation functional used and whether long‐range interactions are included or not.

The Effect of Edible Chitosan Coatings Incorporated with Thymus capitatus Essential Oil on the Shelf-Life of Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) during Cold Storage

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2018
The strawberry is a fruit appreciated in the food industry for its high content of bioactive compounds. However, it is considered a highly perishable fruit, generally attacked by pests of phytopathogenic origin, which decreases its shelf-life.

Improving the Efficiency of a Bioreactor Equipped With Mixed‐Flow Impellers

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 48, Issue 7, July 2025.
The present work investigated the biological performance of mixed‐flow impellers. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first experimental study on such impellers in a fermentation process using A. vinelandii, which was chosen as a microorganism due to its high oxygen demand.

Effect of Microwave or Ultrasound Irradiation in the Extraction from Feather Keratin

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The extraction of feather keratin biopolymer structures was studied using chicken feathers as a biomass material by the cold acid hydrolysis reaction; the recrystallization stage was performed using microwave or ultrasound irradiation, and conduction heating was used as a reference.

Experimental and Theoretical Estimations of Atrazine’s Adsorption in Mangosteen-Peel-Derived Nanoporous Carbons

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Nanoporous carbons were prepared via chemical and physical activation from mangosteen-peel-derived chars. The removal of atrazine was studied due to the bifunctionality of the N groups.

The Cyclin‐Dependent Kinase activity modulates the central carbon metabolism in maize during germination

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 177, Issue 1, January/February 2025.
Abstract The cell cycle is predominantly controlled by Cyclins/Cyclin‐Dependent Kinases (Cyc/CDK) complexes, which phosphorylate targets involved in cellular proliferation. Evidence suggests that Cyc/CDK targets extend beyond traditional proteins and include enzymes that regulate the central carbon metabolism.

Cyanobacterial Biomass Pigments as Natural Sensitizer for TiO2 Thin Films

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
In this work, we studied the effect of TiO2 sensitization with dry biomass extracted of cyanobacteria on the degradation of methylene blue dye (AM). Cyanobacterial cultures isolated from water samples were collected from the swamp of Malambo in Colombia; two main genera of cyanobacteria were identified, and they were cultivated with BG‐11 culture ...
