Research on reliability of carrier ethernet
SPIE Proceedings, 2007This paper analyzes the reliability of Carrier Ethernet (CE) by employing the reliability data mining algorithm for communication network based on the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), and the result of the analysis validates that CE can satisfy the operation requirements of carrier network.

Carrier-Grade Ethernet for Core Networks
OFC/NFOEC 2007 - 2007 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2007This paper considers the functionality and standards required to enable carrier-grade core networks based on Ethernet-over-WDM. Possible Ethernet backbone network architectures will be discussed followed by an evaluation of the CAPEX and OPEX performance.

Protection switching for Carrier Ethernet multicast
2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops, 2010This paper addresses network survivability for IPTV multicast transport in Carrier Ethernet networks. The impact of link failures is investigated and suggestions for intelligent multicast resilience schemes are proposed. In particular, functions of the multicast tree are integrated with the Carrier Ethernet transport layer, thereby optimizing the ...

Carrier Ethernet for Transport in UMTS Radio Access Network: Ethernet Backhaul Evolution
VTC Spring 2008 - IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, 2008This paper discusses the use of Carrier Ethernet for the transport of UMTS radio access network as a alternative solution for the gradual migration towards pure IP-based RAN. By means of Pseudo-Wire technique, the ATM service is emulated over the underlying Ethernet network.

Optimizing multicast operation in Ethernet carrier networks
2010 7th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks & Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP 2010), 2010Ethernet has grown from its roots in LANs to cover large scale networks. A set of projects plan to enhance the features of Ethernet to be with carrier grade features like high availability, fault management, and resiliency found in other circuit switched technologies. Ethernet has been architected and designed for a shared medium, it inherently handles

Carrier-grade Ethernet for packet core networks
SPIE Proceedings, 2006Ethernet is a permanent success story, extending its reach from LAN and metro areas now also into core networks. 100 Gbit/s Ethernet will be the key enabler for a new generation of true end-to-end carrier grade Ethernet networks. This paper first focuses on functionality and standards required to enable carrier-grade Ethernet-based core networks and ...

Qualitative OPEX Analysis for Multidomain Carrier Ethernet
2009 IEEE Globecom Workshops, 2009Automated service provisioning is crucial for efficient interdomain networking. Using the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), two automation-based interdomain architectures for Carrier Ethernet transport are compared with traditional approaches, in order to identify main Operational Expenditure (OPEX) differences.

Smart Spanning Tree Bridging for Carrier Ethernets
IEEE GLOBECOM 2008 - 2008 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2008Carrier Ethernet WAN transport services are taking off rapidly and the simplicity, ubiquity, and plug-and-play features of Ethernet are some key success factors. Originally, these transport services assumed the use of VLANs and spanning tree protocols within provider bridge (PB) and provider backbone bridge (PBB) networks. Because the existing spanning

100 Gigabit Ethernet from a Carrier's Perspective
LEOS 2007 - IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society Annual Meeting Conference Proceedings, 2007The need for 100 Gb/s Ethernet is clearly established because 1. this increased traffic is all IP- based, 2. nearly all these IP packets are encapsulated within Ethernet frames somewhere along their journey from origin to destination, 3. the need for the classic TDM channelization features provided by SONET/SDH have run their course, and 4.
