A Cartan-theoretic classification of multiply-transitive $(2,3,5)$-distributions

open access: yes, 2022
In his 1910 paper, \'Elie Cartan gave a tour-de-force solution to the (local) equivalence problem for generic rank 2 distributions on 5-manifolds, i.e. $(2,3,5)$-distributions. From a modern perspective, these structures admit equivalent descriptions as (

Homogeneous Cartan geometries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
summary:We describe invariant principal and Cartan connections on homogeneous principal bundles and show how to calculate the curvature and the holonomy; in the case of an invariant Cartan connection we give a formula for the infinitesimal automorphisms.

Equivariant cohomology and the Maurer-Cartan equation

open access: yes, 2005
Let G be a compact, connected Lie group, acting smoothly on a manifold M. Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson described a small Cartan model for the equivariant cohomology of M, quasi-isomorphic to the standard Cartan complex of equivariant differential forms ...

Geometric phases of nonlinear elastic N-rotors via Cartan’s moving frames

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena
We study the geometric phases of nonlinear elastic $N$-rotors with continuous rotational symmetry. In the Hamiltonian framework, the geometric structure of the phase space is a principal fiber bundle, i.e., a base, or shape manifold~$\mathcal{B}$, and fibers $\mathcal{F}$ along the symmetry direction attached to it.
