Indirect forces between impurities in one-dimensional quantum liquids

open access: yes, 2007
We investigate the indirect interaction between two isolated impurities in a Luttinger liquid described by a microscopic lattice model. To treat the electron-electron interaction U the functional renormalization group method is used.

Mortality attributable to hot and cold ambient temperatures in India: a nationally representative case-crossover study

open access: yesPLoS Medicine, 2018
Background Most of the epidemiological studies that have examined the detrimental effects of ambient hot and cold temperatures on human health have been conducted in high-income countries.

The Anisotropic Adsorption of De Novo Allosteric Two‐Component Protein Fibers on Mica Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interfacial behavior of de novo designed proteins that self‐assemble into tubular architectures with distinct morphologies — small (S), large (L), and helical (H) fibers — at the muscovite mica‐water interface is explored using in situ AFM. Abstract Protein adsorption at solid–liquid interfaces underlies many biomedical and materials

Valence Bond Entanglement and Fluctuations in Random Singlet Phases

open access: yes, 2011
The ground state of the uniform antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain can be viewed as a strongly fluctuating liquid of valence bonds, while in disordered chains these bonds lock into random singlet states on long length scales.

Advances in Stimuli‐Responsive Organic Materials and Polymers toward Intelligent CO2 Capture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the relationship between different stimuli and stimuli‐responsive organic materials and polymers for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. Main stimuli include redox, pH, magnetism, temperature, light, and pressure. Furthermore, multi‐responsive materials, due to their high adaptability and scalability in complex environments, are ...

Eight-quark interactions as a chiral thermometer

open access: yes, 2008
A NJL Lagrangian extended to six and eight quark interactions is applied to study temperature effects (SU(3) flavor limit, massless case), and (realistic massive case).

Methodological Assessment of Case–Crossover Studies

open access: yesمجله اپیدمیولوژی ایران, 2008
The case-crossover design was developed in the early 1990s to study the effects of transient, short-term exposures on the risk of acute events such as myocardial infarction. To estimate relative risk, the exposure frequency during a period just before outcome onset (hazard period) is compared with exposure frequency during control time(s) in that ...
