Ozone, Heat Wave, and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality: A Population-Based Case-Crossover Study.
Environmental Science and Technology, 2023A case-crossover study among 511,767 cardiovascular disease (CVD) deaths in Jiangsu province, China, during 2015-2021 was conducted to assess the association of exposure to ambient ozone (O3) and heat wave with CVD mortality and explore their possible ...

Ambient temperature and preterm birth: A case‐crossover study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 2023AbstractObjectiveTo investigate the association between ambient temperature and preterm birth (PTB) and to estimate the population attributable fraction (PAF) of PTBs due to low and high temperatures.DesignTime‐stratified case‐crossover design.SettingJapan (46 prefectures, excluding Okinawa), 2011–2020.Sample214 050 PTBs registered in the Japan ...

The case-crossover study design in pharmacoepidemiology
Statistical Methods in Medical Research, 2009In the study of the association of transient drug exposures with acute outcomes, the case-crossover design is an efficient alternative to the case-control approach. This design based exclusively on the case series uses within-subject comparisons of drug exposures over time to estimate the rate ratio of the outcome associated with the drug under study.

Interpretation and bias in case-crossover studies
Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 1997The case-crossover design is an innovative epidemiologic technique with distinct strengths and limitations. We review the fundamental logic of this self-matching non-randomized design and direct attention to 15 concerns related to the available data, unavailable data, analytic technique, quantitative statistics, and etiologic model.

Alcohol and injury. A case-crossover study
Archives of Family Medicine, 1995To determine whether and to what extent alcohol consumption increases the risk of injury. The case-crossover study is a new research design for assessing rare acute events (such as trauma) in relation to intermittent exposures (such as alcohol use) that have transient effects.
