Particleboard from Cashew Nut Shell Liquid
Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 2007Cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) is a cheap agro-by-product and renewable resource which consists mainly of substituted phenols. A CNSL based resol resin was used in this study as a binder for particleboards. The resin was a copolymer obtained by condensing a mixture of phenol and CNSL with hexamethylenetetramine. Properties of the board viz.

Anacardic Acid: Molluscicide in Cashew Nut Shell Liquid
Planta Medica, 1982The components of anacardic acid, (a mixture of 6-n-C (15) alkylsalicylic acids whose side chains vary in degrees of unsaturation) have been isolated by high pressure liquid chromatography from a crude extract of cashew nut shell, Anacardium occidentale, and tested for toxicity to fresh water snails, Biomphalaria glabrata.

Enzymatic bioremediation of cashew nut shell liquid contamination
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2010Cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), a by-product of the cashew kernel industry, is a caustic, viscous, dark liquid. The process is done manually, which leaves stains on the hands of the workers. The aim was to find the utility of enzymes, oxidoreductases and proteases for the bioremediation of CNSL, which contains phenolics, mainly cardanol (60-65%).

Amphiphilic antioxidants from “cashew nut shell liquid” (CNSL) waste
Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2011Hydrogenated cardanol and cardols, contained in industrial grade cardanol oil and obtained by distillation of the raw "cashew nut shell liquid" (CNSL), are easily transformed into efficient 4-thiaflavane antioxidants bearing a long alkyl chain on A ring and a catechol group on B ring.

Isomerizing Hydroformylation of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid
ChemCatChem, 2017AbstractA small library of bisphosphorus ligands was evaluated in the rhodium‐catalyzed isomerizing hydroformylation (I‐HF) of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). The rhodium complex of 1,2‐bis((di‐tert‐butylphosphanyl)methyl)benzene (BDTBPMB; L4) outperformed the other bisphosphite and bisphosphine ligands and unveiled a moderate selectivity of 28 % and ...

Antileishmania and immunomodulatory potential of cashew nut shell liquid and cardanol
Toxicology in Vitro, 2023Conventional treatments for leishmaniasis have caused serious adverse effects, poor tolerance, development of resistant strains. Natural products have been investigated as potential therapeutic alternatives. The cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) is a natural source of phenolic compounds with several biological activities, where cardanol (CN) is considered

Hemp fibre reinforced cashew nut shell liquid composites
Composites Science and Technology, 2003Hemp fibre bundles were alkalised at concentrations between 0.8 and 8% NaOH and the change in surface morphology was elucidated using scanning electron microscopy. Fibres were tested in tension and the 4 and 6% NaOH treatment resulted in the highest Young's modulus and tensile strength of 65 GPa and 1064 MPa respectively.

Separation of cashew nut shell liquid by column chromatography
African Journal of Science and Technology, 2006Cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) a natural product that consists of a mixture of phenolic compounds was separated into cardanol, cardol, and 2 - methylcardol using column chromatography. The separation was aimed at recovering cardanol that can be used in the synthesis of cation-exchange resin. The separation was effected using a mixture of equal portions

Sodium Cardanol Sulfonate Surfactant from Cashew Nut Shell Liquid
Journal of Surfactants and Detergents, 2008AbstractSodium cardanol sulfonate surfactant was synthesized from cardanol from cashew nut shell liquid. Surfactant properties of cardanol sulfonate were determined and compared with dodecylbenzene sulfonate. Surface tension values were determined to be 32.25 mN/m for cardanol sulfonate at 20% w/v and 28.00 mN/m for dodecylbenzene sulfonate at 15% w/v.
