Photosynthetic and leaf anatomical characteristics of Castanea sativa: a comparison between in vitro and nursery plants [PDF]
The anatomic and functional leaf characteristics related to photosynthetic performance of Castanea sativa growing in vitro and in nursery were compared. The irradiance saturated photosynthesis in in vitro grown plantlets was significantly lower compared ...

Involvement of reactive oxygen species during early stages of ectomycorrhiza establishment between Castanea sativa and Pisolithus tinctorius [PDF]
Evidence for the participation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant systems in ectomycorrhizal(ECM) establishment is lacking. In this paper, we evaluated ROS production and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT ...

Growth of chestnut (Castanea sativa) in the Netherlands [PDF]
European interest in relatively fast growing trees that will produce durable timber has increased strongly in recent years for economic and ecological reasons. Agriculture needs alternative products and production systems. Growing quality timber, possibly combined with another crop is one way of doing this.

Paenibacillus castaneae sp. nov., isolated from the phyllosphere of Castanea sativa Miller [PDF]
A bacterial strain, designated Ch-32(T), was isolated from the phyllosphere of Castanea sativa in Spain. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences placed the isolate in the genus Paenibacillus within the same subgroup as Paenibacillus xinjiangensis and Paenibacillus glycanilyticus, with similarities of 96.3 and 96.8 %, respectively.
