WEB POST STRENGTH IN CASTELLATED STEEL BEAMS.

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, 1985
An experimental study is reported in which 16 castellated beam specimens of the standard British module have been subjected to locally applied compressive loading over a web post. Experimental failure loads were found to be relatively insensitive both to cross-section geometry and to the exact way in which the load was introduced into the web post. The

OPTIMUM EXPANSION RATIO OF CASTELLATED STEEL BEAMS

Engineering Optimization, 1975
Abstract In this paper, the authors present a numerical analysis for the optimum expansion ratio based on the elastic as well as the plastic method of analysis. The elastic analysis program is based on an iterative process and involves the calculation of allowable loads corresponding to potentially critical flexural and shear stresses at each increment

Behaviour of composite frames with castellated steel beams at elevated temperatures

Advances in Structural Engineering, 2016
The behaviour of composite frames with castellated steel beams at elevated temperatures is investigated, and the results obtained were compared with the companion results of simply supported composite castellated steel beams. Overall, it is aimed to investigate the effect of axial and rotational restraining of the steel beam via rigid connections with

Testing and modelling of hot-rolled steel castellated hollow tubular beams

Structures, 2021
Abstract Researchers and design engineers are increasingly interested in castellated beams because of their ability to provide greater flexural strength with lower dead loads, as well as provide services and cost-effective structures. The influence of castellation on the bending strength and stiffness of the hot-rolled steel Square Tubular Beams ...

Behaviour of normal and high-strength castellated steel beams

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2012
This paper investigates the design and behaviour of normal- and high-strength castellated steel beams under distortional buckling. An efficient non-linear three-dimensional finite-element model has been developed for the analysis of the beams. The initial geometric imperfection, residual stresses and material non-linearities of flange and web portions

Force Behavior of Outer Annular-Stiffener Type Steel Castellated Beam-Concrete Filled Steel Tuber

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
The force behavior of outer annular-stiffener type steel castellated beam (OATSCB) - concrete filled steel tube (CFST) is analyzed, and the feasibility of this kind of join is discussed. The loading process of the joint is simulated by using finite element software.

Nonlinear FE analysis of the ultimate behavior of steel castellated beams

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2012
Abstract A numerical model is developed to predict the behavior of castellated beams with hexagonal and octagonal openings up to failure. The numerical model takes into account both material and geometric nonlinearities. To initiate buckling, an initial small out-of-plane geometric imperfection, obtained from an eigenvalues buckling analysis, was ...
