Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

A case of accidental Ricin poisoning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A case report of accidental, mild ricin poisoning by ingestion of ten Castor beans by a 70 year old man. The clinical presentation is followed by a discussion about the toxicity of ricin, its use and misuse and the contrast between the toxicity of pure ...

Super-massive stars: Radiative transfer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The concept of central super-massive stars (${\cal M} \ge 5 \times 10^4 M_{\odot}$, where ${\cal M}$ is the mass of the super-massive star) embedded in dense stellar systems was suggested as a possible explanation for high- energy emissions phenomena ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

An analysis of k-mer frequency features with SVM and CNN for viral subtyping classification

open access: yesJournal of Computer Science and Technology, 2020
Viral subtyping classification is very relevant for the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. The most used tools are based on alignment-based methods, nevertheless, they are becoming too slow with the increase of genomic data.

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Production of EPSPS and bar gene double-herbicide resistant castor (Ricinus communis L.)

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2020
Castor (Ricinus communis L.) is one of the world's top ten oil crops. China is the second largest producer of castor beans, but China's castor bean acreage has been declining. A principal reason for this decline is the prevalence of weeds and the absence

Measurement of the inelastic proton-proton cross section at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

open access: yes, 2016
A measurement of the inelastic proton-proton cross section at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV is presented. The analysis is performed using the CMS detector, in particular with information from forward calorimetry at pseudorapidities of 3 ...
