On the eclipsing cataclysmic variable star HBHA 4705-03 [PDF]

open access: green, 2013
We present observations and analysis of a new eclipsing binary HBHA 4705-03. Using decomposition of the light curve into accretion disk and hot spot components, we estimated photometrically the mass ratio of the studied system to be q=0.62 +-0.07.

A new cataclysmic variable star [PDF]

open access: bronzePublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1992
We report spectrophotometric observation of a new cataclysmic variable star J 05.23, discovered as a byproduct of the Calan-Tololo Survey of quasars and Seyfert galaxies. From the ESO Quick Blue Chart we estimated a B magnitude of 17.5. The spectrum between 3200 and 6500 angstroms shows strong emission in the He I lambda-5876 angstroms, HBeta, HGamma ...

Photometric Analysis of the Cataclysmic Variable Star LT Eri

open access: goldThe Astronomical Journal
LT Eri is a long-period eclipsing cataclysmic variable star (CV). This study investigates its outbursts, negative superhumps (NSHs), tilted-disk precession, eclipse-depth variations, and observed minus calculated ( O – C ) behavior, using photometric ...

Analysis of cataclysmic variable star energy distributions

open access: closedThe Astronomical Journal, 1982
I analyze spectrophotometry of cataclysmic variable stars covering the wavelength range 0.32--1.1 ..mu..m. The contributions due to the cool secondary star and the accretion disk are separated, subject to the requirement that the spectrum attributed to the accretion disk be ''physically plausible.'' The results for individual stars, which are largely ...

SDSS J134441.83+204408.3: A Highly Asynchronous Short-period Magnetic Cataclysmic Variable with a 56 MG Field Strength [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
When the accreting white dwarf in a magnetic cataclysmic variable star (mCV) has a field strength in excess of 10 MG, it is expected to synchronize its rotational frequency to the binary orbit frequency, particularly at small binary separations, due to ...

Identification of Orbital Eclipses in LAMOST J024048.51+195226.9, a Candidate AE Aqr-type Cataclysmic Variable Star [PDF]

open access: greenResearch Notes of the AAS, 2020
AE Aqr objects are a class of cataclysmic variable stars in which the rapidly rotating magnetosphere of the white dwarf (WD) primary centrifugally expels most infalling gas before it can accrete onto the WD.

Irradiation of the secondary star in cataclysmic variables [PDF]

open access: bronzeMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1992
It is shown how the relative strength of the Na I doublet over the surface of the secondary star can be calculated from radial velocity curves obtained using the Na I absorption feature around 8190 A. The results for 11 dwarf novae and one magnetic cataclysmic binary system are presented.

Nine New Cataclysmic Variable Stars with Negative Superhumps [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Negative superhumps (NSHs) are signals a few percent shorter than the orbital period of a binary star and are considered to originate from the reverse precession of the tilted disk.

Irradiation of the companion star in cataclysmic variables [PDF]

open access: bronzeMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1989
