The donor stars of cataclysmic variables [PDF]
Abstract We carefully consider observational and theoretical constraints on the global properties of secondary stars in cataclysmic variable stars (CVs). We then use these constraints to construct and test a complete, semi-empirical donor sequence for CVs with orbital periods Porb≤ 6 h.

Dynamical modelling of CXOGBS J175553.2−281633: a 10 h long orbital period cataclysmic variable [PDF]
We present modelling of the long-term optical light and radial velocity curves of the binary stellar system CXOGBS J175553.2−281633, first detected in X-rays in the Chandra Galactic Bulge Survey.

High spectral resolution time-resolved optical spectroscopy of V893 Sco [PDF]
We present high resolution time-resolved optical spectra of the high inclination short orbital period dwarf nova V893 Sco. We performed spectral analysis through radial velocity measurements, Doppler mapping, and ratioed Doppler maps.

System parameters of three short-period cataclysmic variable stars [PDF]
ABSTRACT Using photometric ULTRACAM observations of three new short-period cataclysmic variables (CVs), we model the primary eclipse light curves to extract the orbital separation, masses, and radii of their component stars. We find donor masses of $0.060\pm 0.008\, {\rm M_\odot }$, $0.042\pm 0.001\, {\rm M_\odot }$, and $0.042\pm 0.004\,

The cataclysmic variable orbital period gap: More evident than ever [PDF]
Recently, large and homogeneous samples of cataclysmic variables identified by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) were published. In these samples, the famous orbital period gap, which is a dearth of systems in the orbital period range $ and the ...

Late evolution of cataclysmic variables: the loss of AM Her systems [PDF]
The white dwarf in AM Her systems is strongly magnetic and keeps in synchronous rotation with the orbit by magnetic coupling to the secondary star. As the latter evolves through mass loss to a cool, degenerate brown dwarf it can no longer sustain its own

Imaging the Secondary Stars in Cataclysmic Variables [PDF]
The secondary, Roche-lobe filling stars in cataclysmic variables (CVs) are key to our understanding of the origin, evolution and behaviour of this class of interacting binary. We review the basic properties of the secondary stars in CVs and the observational and analysis methods required to detect them.

Evolution and Outbursts of Cataclysmic Variables
Mass transfer and accretion are very important to understand the evolution and observational properties of cataclysmic variables (CVs). Due to the lack of an accretion disk, eclipsing profiles of polars are the best source to study the character of mass ...

SDSS J142625.71+575218.3: A Prototype for A New Class of Variable White Dwarf [PDF]
We present the results of a search for pulsations in six of the recently discovered carbon-atmosphere white dwarf ("hot DQ") stars. On the basis of our theoretical calculations, the star SDSS J142625.71 + 575218.3 is the only object expected to pulsate ...
