On Catalan's conjecture

open access: yesJournal of Number Theory, 1990
AbstractWe prove by the theory of algebraic numbers a result (Theorem 3) which, together with our earlier results (Theorems 1 and 2), yields a simple procedure for showing that Catalan's equation xp − yq = 1 has only trivial solution (x, y) in integers for a large set of prime pairs (p, q) (cf. particularly Theorems 6 and 8).

Fuss-Catalan numbers and planar partitions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We show how the Fuss-Catalan numbers $ \frac{1}{p n+1}\binom{pn+1}{n}$ enter different problems of counting simple and multiple planar partitions.

Photochemical Conversion of Indazoles into Benzimidazoles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Fragment‐based drug discovery relies on preparing diverse libraries of advanced building blocks, often incorporating heteroaromatic motifs. Altering the core of heteroaromatics to maximise library diversity typically requires de novo synthesis of each system. This can be often challenging when specific substitution patterns are needed.

Catalan pairs and Fishburn triples [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Disanto, Ferrari, Pinzani and Rinaldi have introduced the concept of 'Catalan pair', which is a pair of partial orders (S,R) satisfying certain axioms. They have shown that Catalan pairs provide a natural description of objects belonging to several classes enumerated by Catalan numbers. In this paper, we first introduce another axiomatic structure (T,

SPANISH IN CATALONIA (Conditional Languages and exalted nationalism)

open access: yesИбероамериканские тетради, 2016
For the last decades the coexistence of Spanish and Catalan has experienced an identity crisis, a clash between the languages that is not apparent in other ambilingual territories or other Catalan-speaking regions. This paper will show the reasons behind

Catalan-like numbers and Hausdorff moment sequences [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this paper we show that many well-known counting coefficients, including the Catalan numbers, the Motzkin numbers, the central binomial coefficients, the central Delannoy numbers are Hausdorff moment sequences in a unified approach. In particular we answer a conjecture of Liang at al. which such numbers have unique representing measures.
