Effect of pH on the Electrochemical Reduction of Nitrate on Metallic Copper

The electrochemical reduction of nitrate on Cu was investigated between pH 4.4–9.3 using on line DEMS and in situ FTIR. We show that electrolyte pH governs the stabilization and conversion of key intermediates such as NO, N2O, and N2H4, and alters local interfacial conditions.
