Abstract In this paper, we will present an overview of compounding in Catalan, covering the founding theoretical-descriptive studies of the 20th century to the most recent scholarship. Specifically, it analyses the boundaries of compounding, considering the limits which make it possible to distinguish compounding from derivation and free syntagmas.

The following two theorems concerning the Diophantlne equation (1) \(x^p-y^q = 1\) are proved: A. Suppose that \(p\) and \(q\) are primes \(> 3\), and \(p\equiv 3\pmod 4\). If \(q\) does not divide the class number \(h(p)\) of the quadratic field \(\mathbb Q(\sqrt{-p})\) and the equation (1) has a solution \(x, y\) in non zero integers, then \(p^q ...

On the equation of Catalan [PDF]
The following conjecture was first made by \textit{E. Catalan} in [J. Reine Angew. Math. 27, 192 (1844; Zbl 02750995)] but has never been proved. The only solution in integers \(p > 1\), \(q > 1\), \(x > 1\), \(y > 1\) of the equation \[ x^p - y^q =1 \tag{*} \] is \(p=y=2\), \(q=x=3\).

Linguistic Laws in Speech: The Case of Catalan and Spanish
In this work we consider Glissando Corpus—an oral corpus of Catalan and Spanish—and empirically analyze the presence of the four classical linguistic laws (Zipf’s law, Herdan’s law, Brevity law, and Menzerath–Altmann’s law) in oral communication, and ...

The Virasoro algebra determines all `graviton' matrix elements in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$. We study the explicit exchange of any number of Virasoro gravitons between heavy and light CFT$_2$ operators at large central charge.

The inverse of a triangular matrix and several identities of the Catalan numbers
In the paper, the authors establish two identities to express higher order derivatives and integer powers of the generating function of the Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind in terms of integer powers and higher order derivatives of the generating
