Identities involving weighted Catalan, Schröder and Motzkin paths

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Mathematics, 2017
In this paper, we investigate the weighted Catalan, Motzkin and Schr der numbers together with the corresponding weighted paths. The relation between these numbers is illustrated by three equations, which also lead to some known and new interesting identities. To show these three equations, we provide combinatorial proofs.

A Mussel‐Inspired Bioadhesive Patch to Selectively Kill Glioblastoma Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An innovative mussel‐inspired bioadhesive patch has been developed for post‐surgical glioblastoma treatment. The patch, which adheres strongly in biological environments, releases a localized treatment. This treatment, acting via reactive oxygen species, shows specific toxicity to glioblastoma cells.

On the Catalan Numbers and Some of Their Identities [PDF]

open access: yesSymmetry, 2019
The main purpose of this paper is using the elementary and combinatorial methods to study the properties of the Catalan numbers, and give two new identities for them. In order to do this, we first introduce two new recursive sequences, then with the help of these sequences, we obtained the identities for the convolution involving the Catalan numbers.

Changing Identity in Small or Minority Nations: Three Recent Catalan Films

open access: yesBulletin of Spanish Visual Studies, 2019
The article places three recent Catalan films in a framework of classificatory discussion of identity, change and small or ‘minority’ nationhood. It builds on previous work on Welsh and Basque film which proposes a system of classification designed to ...

Stable Diffusion Models Reveal a Persisting Human–AI Gap in Visual Creativity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study examines visual creativity in humans and generative AI using the TCIA framework. Human artists outperform AI overall, yet structured human guidance substantially improves AI outputs and evaluations. Findings reveal that alignment with human creativity depends critically on contextual framing, highlighting both the promise and current ...

Standing the Test of Time – Barth and Ethnicity

open access: yesCoolabah, 2014
Ethnicity remains an essential theory for understanding societies in the 21st century. This paper focuses on how well Fredrik Barth’s 1969 analyses and insights in Ethnic Groups and Boundaries have ‘stood the test of time’.

Enhancing Atomic‐Resolution in Electron Microscopy: A Deep Learning Denoiser Operating in the Frequency Domain

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The newly developed AI‐automated Fast Fourier Transform denoising algorithm surpasses conventional real‐space methods by revealing even light atoms otherwise hidden in noisy backgrounds. Atomic resolution electron microscopy has become an essential tool for many scientific fields, when direct visualization of atomic arrangements and defects is needed ...

Drivers of insect herbivory resistance and tolerance to plant damage in the Brachypodium distachyon species complex

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Insect herbivory is a major biotic factor shaping plant populations and driving the evolution of defensive traits. Polyploidy (whole‐genome duplication) often induces substantial phenotypic and genotypic changes that may affect species interactions, including herbivory.

Biallelic Germline Inactivation of HROB Causes Primary Gonadal Insufficiency and is Potentially Associated with Colonic Polyposis Predisposition

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Homologous Recombination Factor With OB‐Fold (HROB) plays a role in homologous recombination and DNA replication, where it enhances the MCM8‐MCM9 helicase complex activity. Recent findings link biallelic germline HROB variants to primary gonadal insufficiency (hypergonadotropic hypogonadism), a phenotype also associated with MCM8/MCM9 ...
