ABSTRACT Papaya (Carica papaya L.) production and marketability are strongly constrained by postharvest diseases, with anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum spp. representing the most significant threat. Traditional control relies on synthetic fungicides, which, although effective, face challenges such as the development of pathogen resistance ...

Flexagons yield a curious Catalan number identity
Hexaflexagons were popularized by the late Martin Gardner in his first Scientific American column in 1956. Oakley and Wisner showed that they can be represented abstractly by certain recursively defined permutations called pats, and deduced that they are counted by the Catalan numbers. Counting pats by number of descents yields the curious identity Sum[

Majorca as a Translational Space: Creating and Questioning Identity through Translation
Majorca offers a rare combination of opportunities to develop a study of translation and space. Not only is it a site of rich historical cultural contact, but it is also a present location of contact and tension: between Spanish and Catalan; between ...

Identities involving Narayana polynomials and Catalan numbers
We first establish the result that the Narayana polynomials can be represented as the integrals of the Legendre polynomials. Then we represent the Catalan numbers in terms of the Narayana polynomials by three different identities. We give three different proofs for these identities, namely, two algebraic proofs and one combinatorial proof.

Integrating polygenic and methylation risk scores for pleural mesothelioma risk stratification
What's New? Asbestos exposure is a major risk factor for pleural mesothelioma (PM). Most asbestos‐exposed individuals do not develop PM, suggesting that it arises from a complex interplay between environmental and genetic factors. This study examined the utility of polygenic risk scores (PRS) and methylation risk scores (MRS) in incorporating genetic ...

Toward a validated European instrument to measure the socioeconomic impact of cancer
What's New? The Financial Index of Toxicity (FIT) evaluates patients' experiences of financial strain after cancer diagnosis. Originally developed in Canada for head and neck cancer patients, the applicability of FIT to other populations remains uncertain. This study assessed the validity of FIT in Europe using patient‐level data from six countries and
