Conflict in Catalonia: A Sociological Approximation [PDF]

open access: yesGenealogy, 2019
This article follows the approach originally pioneered by Juan Linz to the empirical study of nationalism. We make use of original survey data to situate the emergent social division around the question of independence within a broader constellation of power relations.

Wafer‐Scale Synthesis of Topological Insulator Sb2Te3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates how the topologically protected conduction in Sb2Te3 thin films can be extended from few‐mm2 samples’ area up to larger areas of several cm2 Si(111) wafers. The reported findings represent a breakthrough for the future technology scale‐up of topological insulators for applications such as spintronics, thermoelectrics, and quantum

Stream metabolism sources a large fraction of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere in two hydrologically contrasting headwater streams

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 67, Issue 12, Page 2621-2634, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Headwater streams are control points for carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to the atmosphere, with relative contributions to CO2 emission fluxes from lateral groundwater inputs widely assumed to overwhelm those from in‐stream metabolic processes.

Catalonia-Italy round trip: Documentary contamination in the funds of some scholars, booksellers and antiquarians

open access: yesBibliothecae.it, 2023
The study of private documentary complexes, with a strong collecting characterisation, becomes a stimulus to fathom the deep links that exist between different and geographically distant institutional contexts.

Thermal and Curvature Effects to Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in phi^4 Theory [PDF]

open access: yesJ.Phys. A39 (2006) 6441-6444, 2006
We study the thermal and curvature effect to spontaneous symmetry breaking in phi^4 theory. The effective potential is evaluated in D-dimensional static universe with positive curvature R X S^{D-1} or negative curvature R X H^{D-1}. It is shown that temperature and positive curvature suppress the symmetry breaking, while negative curvature enhances it.

Bioprinted Patient‐Derived Organoid Arrays Capture Intrinsic and Extrinsic Tumor Features for Advanced Personalized Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An embedded bioprinting enabled‐arrayed patient‐derived organoids (Eba‐PDO) platform that replicates intrinsic and extrinsic tumor characteristics is introduced. Eba‐PDOs more accurately mimic tissue than standard PDOs (Std‐PDOs) due to maturation in the tumor microenvironment.

Epithelial Cell Mechanoresponse to Matrix Viscoelasticity and Confinement Within Micropatterned Viscoelastic Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Extracellular matrix (ECM) viscoelasticity and spatial confinement regulate cellular processes such as cancer progression, yet their interplay remains poorly understood. By developing fibronectin (FN)‐micropatterned viscoelastic hydrogels mimicking breast cancer mechanics, this study explores breast epithelial cell mechanoresponse to ECM ...

The fine arts during the Baroque period in the Principality of Catalonia and the countships of Roussillon and the Cerdagne [PDF]

open access: yesCatalan Historical Review, 2014
Once the prejudices that hindered our understanding of Baroque art’s true nature had been overcome, the history of Catalan art has been rehabilitating the memory of the Baroque period and discovering a more faithful image of it.

Tailoring Piezoelectric Nanogenerators and Microdevices for Cellular Excitation: Impact of Size and Morphology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Piezoelectric microdevices, composed of ZnO nanosheets acting as nanogenerators and grown on silicon microparticles, are designed and fabricated to deliver precise electrical cell stimulation. This study optimizes nanosheet growth and microparticle size to enhance electrical cell activation performance while minimizing cellular internalization.
