Geometry of Universal Magnification Invariants

open access: yes, 2009
Recent work in gravitational lensing and catastrophe theory has shown that the sum of the signed magnifications of images near folds, cusps and also higher catastrophes is zero.

Neutron stars in scalar-tensor theories of gravity and catastrophe theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We investigate neutron stars in scalar-tensor theories. We examine their secular stability against spherically symmetric perturbations by use of a turning point method.

The Catastrophe Theory, Petrov's Algebraic Classification and gravitation phase transitions

open access: yes, 2011
A close relationship is demonstrated between the catastrophe theory, Petrov's algebraic classification of the gravitational fields and the theory of phase transitions.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure, Talk given at the International Conference RUDN-10, June ...

The evolution of strategic timing in collective-risk dilemmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In collective-risk dilemmas, a group needs to collaborate over time to avoid a catastrophic event. This gives rise to a coordination game with many equilibria, including equilibria where no one contributes, and thus no measures against the catastrophe ...

Quasi-classical approximation in vortex filament dynamics. Integrable systems, gradient catastrophe and flutter

open access: yes, 2012
Quasiclassical approximation in the intrinsic description of the vortex filament dynamics is discussed. Within this approximation the governing equations are given by elliptic system of quasi-linear PDEs of the first order.

Analysis of a three-component model phase diagram by Catastrophe Theory: Potentials with two Order Parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
In this work we classify the singularities obtained from the Gibbs potential of a lattice gas model with three components, two order parameters and five control parameters applying the general theorems provided by Catastrophe Theory.

Dynamical properties of a two-dimensional electron gas in a magnetic field within the composite fermion model

open access: yes, 1998
We investigate the response of a two-dimensional electron gas, in the fractional quantum Hall regime, to the sudden appearance of a localised charged probe using the Chern-Simons theory of composite fermions.

Classification of Inflationary Einstein--Scalar--Field--Models via Catastrophe Theory

open access: yes, 1994
Various scenarios of the initial inflation of the universe are distinguished by the choice of a scalar field {\em potential} $U(\phi)$ which simulates a {\it temporarily} non--vanishing {\em cosmological term}.

Theory of Structural Glasses and Supercooled Liquids

open access: yes, 2006
We review the Random First Order Transition Theory of the glass transition, emphasizing the experimental tests of the theory. Many distinct phenomena are quantitatively predicted or explained by the theory, both above and below the glass transition ...

Analysis of a three-component model phase diagram by Catastrophe Theory

open access: yes, 1997
We analyze the thermodynamical potential of a lattice gas model with three components and five parameters using the methods of Catastrophe Theory. We find the highest singularity, which has codimension five, and establish its transversality.
