Neutron stars in scalar-tensor theories of gravity and catastrophe theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We investigate neutron stars in scalar-tensor theories. We examine their secular stability against spherically symmetric perturbations by use of a turning point method.

Atomic Size Misfit for Electrocatalytic Small Molecule Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the application and mechanisms of atomic size misfit in catalysis for small molecule activation, focusing on how structural defects and electronic properties can effectively lower the energy barriers of chemical bonds in molecules like H2O, CO2, and N2.

Aspects of hairy black holes in spontaneously-broken Einstein-Yang-Mills systems: Stability analysis and Entropy considerations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We analyze (3+1)-dimensional black-hole space-times in spontaneously broken Yang-Mills gauge theories that have been recently presented as candidates for an evasion of the scalar-no-hair theorem.

Designing Thermally Compatible Template‐Coating Pairs Toward Dimensionally Stable 3D Porous Carbons with Tunable Density

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
3D porous carbons with tunable density are crucial for energy storage, separations, and load‐bearing applications; however, their fabrication is often constrained by shrinkage during pyrolysis. This study optimizes and demonstrates the versatility of a template–coating pair strategy, producing materials that largely retain their shape and hierarchical ...

Théorie des catastrophes et dynamisme sémantique

open access: yesHermes, 1992
The article focuses on the potential import of catastrophe theory in the study of word semantics. Thus the lexical content of the French adjective terrible is analyzed within the dynamic geometrical frame-work of the catastrophe theoretic schemata in ...

Analysis of a three-component model phase diagram by Catastrophe Theory: Potentials with two Order Parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
In this work we classify the singularities obtained from the Gibbs potential of a lattice gas model with three components, two order parameters and five control parameters applying the general theorems provided by Catastrophe Theory.

Viscoelasticity‐Induced Controllable Periodic Meso‐Textures of Liquid Crystal Polymers in Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Viscoelasticity‐driven instabilities are harnessed to create tunable, periodic textures in 3D‐printed liquid crystalline polymers. This study illustrates how processing parameters control these spontaneous meso‐scale patterns. These unique structural architectures unlock new possibilities for functional devices, ranging from photonic components to ...

Interdisciplinary Approach for Sustainable Forest Management

open access: yesInternational Journal of Bio-Resource and Stress Management, 2018
The possibilities of the Catastrophe Theory for predicting the dynamics of forest ecosystems and developing scenarios for sustainable forest management are discussed. The main features of the approach are described.

A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.
