Catastrophic health expenditure and health-related quality of life among older adults in Shandong, China: the moderation effect of daily care by adult children

open access: yesInternational Journal for Equity in Health
Background Catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) has a considerable impact on older people in later life, but little is known about the relationship between catastrophic health expenditure and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The aim of this study

Continual Learning for Multimodal Data Fusion of a Soft Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Models trained on a single data modality often struggle to generalize when exposed to a different modality. This work introduces a continual learning algorithm capable of incrementally learning different data modalities by leveraging both class‐incremental and domain‐incremental learning scenarios in an artificial environment where labeled data is ...

ChicGrasp: Imitation‐Learning‐Based Customized Dual‐Jaw Gripper Control for Manipulation of Delicate, Irregular Bio‐Products

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Automated poultry processing lines still rely on humans to lift slippery, easily bruised carcasses onto a shackle conveyor. Deformability, anatomical variance, and hygiene rules make conventional suction and scripted motions unreliable. We present ChicGrasp, an end‐to‐end hardware‐software co‐designed imitation learning framework, to offer a ...

Transforming Grain‐Boundary Brittle Precipitates to Ductility Pathways in Complex Concentrated Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By engineering graded BCC/L12 interfaces, brittle precipitates in a complex concentrated alloy enable sequential deformation, realizing gigapascal strength with >20% elongation to solve the strength‐ductility trade‐off. ABSTRACT Conventional wisdom holds that hard grain‐boundary (GB) precipitates embrittle structural alloys by acting as crack ...

Out-of-pocket expenditure for hypertension care: a population-based study in low-income urban Medellin, Colombia

open access: yesGlobal Health Action, 2020
Background Hypertension requires life-long medical care, which may cause economic burden and even lead to catastrophic health expenditure. Objective To estimate the extent of out-of-pocket expenditure for hypertension care at a population level and its ...

Catastrophic health expenditure among Chinese adults living alone with cognitive impairment: findings from the CHARLS

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics, 2022
Background The catastrophic health expenditure of older adults results in serious consequences; however, the issue of whether cognitive status and living situations contribute to such financial burdens is uncertain. Our aim was to compare the differences

Health care payments in the asia pacific: validation of five survey measures of economic burden [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction: Many low and middle-income countries rely on out-of-pocket payments to help finance health care. These payments can pose financial hardships for households; valid measurement of this type of economic burden is therefore critical. This study

Outstanding 1200 °C Oxidation Resistance in a Novel Multi‐Principal Element Alloy via Lattice Distortion‐Induced Diffusion Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The unique lamellar structure of the eutectic alloy promotes selective oxidation of Al initially, while lattice distortion‐induced diffusion suppression slows oxide growth during steady state. Combining these strategies, a Multi‐Principal Element Alloy with excellent oxidation resistance at 1200℃ was designed.
