Catastrophic Importance of Catastrophic Forgetting

open access: yesCoRR, 2018
This paper describes some of the possibilities of artificial neural networks that open up after solving the problem of catastrophic forgetting. A simple model and reinforcement learning applications of existing methods are also proposed.

The Relationship Between Ruminating the Catastrophic Consequences of Bodily Changes and Positive Reappraisal and Practical Problem-Solving Strategies in Individuals With Illness Anxiety Disorder

open access: yesBasic and Clinical Neuroscience, 2020
Introduction: Cognitive emotion regulation is suggested to contribute to Illness Anxiety Disorder (IAD). Reappraisal and suppression are essential ER strategies with controversial data about their roles in IAD.

Inhibition of cyclin‐dependent kinases 12/13 using CT7439 as a treatment for colorectal cancer with CDK12 upregulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The proposed mechanism of action for the CDK12/13 inhibitor and cyclin K degrader, CT7439. CDK12/13 inhibition interrupts transcription elongation, leading to increased DNA damage that results in cell death. This agent is a potentially novel treatment option for patients with colorectal cancer. Created in BioRender. Cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK) 12 and

Effects of a Pain Catastrophizing Induction on Sensory Testing in Women with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Pilot Study

open access: yesPain Research and Management, 2017
Pain catastrophizing, a pattern of negative cognitive-emotional responses to actual or anticipated pain, maintains chronic pain and undermines response to treatments.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

The Temporal Relationship between Catastrophizing and Chronic Pain

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Pain, 2019
Introduction/Aim: Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic pelvic pain syndrome characterized by persistent pain localized to the bladder and urologic symptoms of urgency, frequency, and dysuria (Nickel et al., 2009).

In silico and in vitro exploration of a tyrosinase for biocatalytic production of catechols

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tyrosinase from Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum is a promising biocatalyst for producing valuable catechols from monophenol substrates. This tyrosinase is uniquely suited to this due to its high monophenolase : diphenolase ratio. We combined in silico docking and in vivo kinetic characterisation of this tyrosinase with 11 industrially relevant monophenols,

Pain catastrophizing predicts verbal expression among children with chronic pain and their mothers

open access: yesHealth Psychology Open, 2016
This study examined intra- and inter-personal associations between pain catastrophizing and verbal expression in 70 children with recurrent abdominal pain and their mothers. Participants independently completed the Pain Catastrophizing Scale. Mothers and

Positive Affect Is Associated With Better Physical Function in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study examined the association between positive affect and physical function in individuals with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods We analyzed baseline data from 129 adults with early RA (persistent joint symptoms for ≤24 months) and active disease enrolled in the Central Pain in RA 2 (CPIRA‐2) study.

Flexural Behavior of 3D‐Printed Porous Bouligand‐Structured Polymers: Influence of Pitch Angle and Porosity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how helicoidal architectures with different porosities respond to bending. Adjusting layer angle and spacing in 3D‐printed polymers reveals clear tradeoffs between stiffness, strength, and energy absorption. Experiments and simulations highlight designs that distribute stress effectively, offering pathways for optimizing lightweight
