Modelling catch per unit effort of the Black Volta near the Bui dam in Ghana

African Journal of Ecology, 2016
AbstractThe chlorophyll a concentration and water level of the Black Volta near the Bui dam were studied in relation to fish production as measured by catch per unit effort (CPUE) between February 2011 and December 2012. The primary objective was to develop a simple linear regression model for predicting CPUE levels.

Catch-Per-Unit-Effort Models: An Application to an Elk Population in Colorado

1992
Catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) models have been a traditional tool of fisheries management but have been relatively unexplored and unused for estimating abundance and survival rates of terrestrial game populations. CPUE models are appealing because they use harvest data traditionally collected by wildlife managers and do not require marking animals.

Using Frequency Distributions of Catch per Unit Effort to Measure Fish-Stock Abundance

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1983
Abstract Mean catch per unit effort often is used as an index of fish abundance, N. This index is often biased. Frequency distributions of catch per unit effort (C/f) and independent estimates of N from a headboat sport fishery for yellowtail snappers Ocyurus chrysurus off Islamorada, Florida, indicated that mean C/f underestimated changes in N ...

Evaluation of Electrofishing Catch per Unit Effort for Indexing Fish Abundance in Florida Lakes

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 2012
AbstractElectrofishing CPUE data are commonly used to index temporal trends in abundance in fish monitoring programs, but the reliability of this index requires the assumption that the fraction of fish stock caught per unit effort (catchability, q) is relatively precise and constant through time. We evaluated how fish species, season, and lake affected

Influence of Trap Saturation on Estimates of Animal Abundance Based on Catch Per Unit Effort

Oikos, 1976
Estimates of animal abundance based on catch per unit effort may seriously underestimate the abundance when a considerable proportion of traps are released during a trapping period. This paper derives equations which may be used to calculate an index which avoids the bias arising from trap saturation.

A Comparison of Cohort Analysis and Catch per Unit Effort for Dover Sole and English Sole

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1980
Abstract Indices of year-class strength, stock size, and surplus production of female Dover sole (Microstomus pacificus) and female English sole (Parophrys vetulus) were calculated by two methods: Catch per unit effort (CPUE) and cohort analysis. For each species we derived two CPUE indices and two cohort analysis indices based on different age-groups.

The reliability of the catch per unit effort as a measure of abundance in North Sea trawl fisheries

1964
This publication is part of Rapport et Proces-Verbaux des Reunions Vol. 155. To see all other articles in this volume, please click on the keyword "RPVR Vol. 155".During the past thirty years the c.p.e. of plaice by English trawlers has changed appreciably, especially during and just after the war; some of these changes can be shown to be almost ...

The catch per unit effort and mortality rates in the Southern Bight and Channel herring fisheries

1963
This publication is part of Rapport et Proces-Verbaux des Reunions Vol. 154. To see all other articles in this volume, please click on the keyword "RPVR Vol. 154".The decline in total catch and catch per unit effort of herring in the Southern Bight in recent years gives reason for serious concern.

Preliminary analysis of catch-per-unit-effort data for abalone in Zones A-D

2008
The General Linear Model (GLM) approach used last year needs to be updated for use in standardising the commercial abalone CPUE time series (1980 – 2006) of abalone for the influence of other factors on the CPUE apart from resource abundance. The raw data were supplied by A. Mackenzie and G. Maharaj (MCM).
