Testing for (Efficiency) Catching‐up

Southern Economic Journal, 2007
We used advances in data envelopment analysis (DEA) techniques to examine efficiency scores and investigate the issue of convergence and divergence in a cross‐country analysis. Specifically, we used bootstrapping techniques to examine a data set of 52 developed and developing countries.

Catching and selective catching

Proceedings of the seventh ACM international conference on Multimedia (Part 1), 1999
We present a novel video streaming technique called catching for on-demand delivery of “hot” (i.e., frequently accessed) video objects to a large number of clients. This technique not only significantly reduces the server and network resource requirements but also is capable of providing near-instantaneous service to a large number of clients.

Catching efficiency and selectivity of entangling nets

Fisheries Research, 1992
Abstract Fishing experiments for entangling nets (semi-trammel and trammel nets) of different mesh sizes and vertical slacks were conducted simultaneously in Tokyo Bay from 1986 to 1989. The purpose of the experiment was to compare the catch and to study the effect on the catching efficiency and selectivity of variations in the construction of the ...

Efficient Deployment of Patrols to Catch Arsonists

2018 Chinese Automation Congress (CAC), 2018
Forest fires are serious disasters that endanger the safety and property of residents. To deal with the arson-caused forest fires, we use security game theory to generate optimal patrol strategy under limited patrolling resources. The existing security game algorithms focus on a single behavior model to prevent attacks, while our work is to incorporate

Trotline efficiencies and catch rates in a large river

Fisheries Management and Ecology, 2013
AbstractTrotlines have proved to be an effective collection method for riverine fish species, but an understanding of the interaction between fish and gear post‐deployment is lacking. The objectives of this study were to use trotlines rigged with hook timers that record the time when fish are hooked to determine the activation rate of hook timers, to ...

Evaluation of the catching efficiency of small pots for prawns

Fisheries Research, 1989
Abstract We report a method to evaluate the catching efficiency of small pots for prawns, based on the model experiments done in a tank in which 6 model pots and 5 population densities were used. Both the entry and escape behaviour of the prawns were affected by the height of the neck above the base under the conditions used here.

The effect of trammel nets colour on catch efficiency

2009

Efficiency of the New Zealand annual catch entitlement market

Marine Policy, 2015
Abstract Balancing catch with annual catch entitlement (ACE) is crucial both for the financial viability of fishers and for the efficient operation of the New Zealand quota management system (QMS). This study examines the information channels that are used by fishers to search for ACE availability, and notes how these channels differ between large ...
