Seabird by-catch and bait loss in long-lining using different setting methods [PDF]
Seabirds taking baits during long-line setting occasionally become caught and are killed, while the associated bait-loss may have serious impact on long-lining efficiency and profitability. Two different setting methods were tested as a solution to this problem in the autoline fishery in the north Atlantic; lines were set either through a setting ...

QUALITY LOSS ANALYSIS OF CAPTURE FISHERIES IN THE GULF OF TOMINI REGION, INDONESIA [PDF]
The post-harvest fish loss in Indonesia is relatively high or about 30 percent. Even Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) states that the post-harvest fish loss in Indonesia reaches up to 30 percent per year. This study aims to analyze quality loss of

Will They Catch Up? The Role of Age at Cochlear Implantation in the Spoken Language Development of Children With Severe to Profound Hearing Loss [PDF]
Purpose The authors examined the benefits of younger cochlear implantation, longer cochlear implant use, and greater pre-implant aided hearing to spoken language at 3.5 and 4.5 years of age. Method Language samples were obtained at ages 3.5 and 4.5 years from 76 children who ...

Beyond biodiversity: fish metagenomes. [PDF]
Biodiversity and intra-specific genetic diversity are interrelated and determine the potential of a community to survive and evolve. Both are considered together in Prokaryote communities treated as metagenomes or ensembles of functional variants beyond ...

The Effect of Gangion Floats on Bait-loss and Catch Rates in Longlining
The use of gangion floats will expectedly reduces bait loss and increase catch rates in bottom longlining. Two floats of 5- and 8 g buoyancy are tested through flume tank experiments, underwater observations in the field and in comparative fishing trials with both manual and automated baiting.
