The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...

Muscle Control of an Extra Robotic Digit
This study compares muscle‐ and movement‐based control for operating a supernumerary robotic thumb. While movement control performs better in the proposed tasks, muscle‐based (EMG) control promotes broader motor learning. The results highlight the promise and challenges of using biosignals for human augmentation, offering new insights into intuitive ...

REPORT OF THE WORKSHOP ON MODELLING CATCH-PER-UNIT-EFFORT (WKCPUE)
Standardized Catch-Per-Unit-Effort (CPUE), i.e., data from commercial fisheries that have been statistically modelled to remove fishery dependant effect, are often used in stock assessments as indicators of abundance and biomass. Here we report the outcomes of the workshop on modeling CPUEs that took place virtually on the 3-5 November 2020 and 6-7 ...

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

STANDARDIZATION OF CATCH‐PER‐UNIT‐EFFORT FOR SHORT‐TERM TRENDS IN CATCHABILITY
Examination of daily catch–per–unit–effort (CPUE) information on Pacific halibut revealed sharp declines that could not be explained by natural and fishing mortality. Catchability may have decreased during a fishing period because of local depletions of fish, changes in fish behavior, and other causes.

Traction Force Microscopy for Viscoelastic Substrates: A Semi‐Analytical Method
A semi‐analytical viscoelastic traction force microscopy framework is introduced for quantifying time‐resolved cell tractions on flat finite‐thickness substrates. The method generalizes elastic traction force microscopy to Generalized Maxwell materials, identifies when elastic approximations remain valid and, when they do not, shows that inferred ...

The impact of environmental factors on CPUE and distribution of Kilka species (Pisces: Clupeidae), in the Southwest of Caspian Sea (Bandar Anzali) [PDF]
The present study analysed the relationship between catch amounts of the Clupeidae species and monthly average weather temperature, rainfall, wave high and water depth in the southwestern of Caspian Sea.

Electrohydraulic Folding Ring Actuators for Radially Contracting Applications
This work presents an Electrohydraulic Folding Ring Actuator that combines high‐performance electrohydraulic actuation with origami‐inspired folding geometry to achieve constricting radial actuation. This integration yields significant inner lumen constriction, alongside a gripping force capable of holding objects exceeding four times the actuator's ...
