Adaptive Control of Run‐and‐Tumble Escape in Pursuit‐Evasion Dynamics of Intelligent Active Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The pursuit‐evasion game is studied for two adversarial active agents, modeled as deterministic self‐steering pursuer and stochastic, cognitive evader. For a successful evasion strategy, the motile target has to exploit all available pursuer information, e.g., by tuning the tumbling frequency with the pursuer distance.

Southern California anchovy reduction fishery sampling plan review [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
The sampling plan applied to the northern anchovy, Engraulis mordax, reduction fishery catch was reviewed to determine the effects on age composition estimates which would be caused by decreasing the sample size per stratum of catch.

Lost in aggregation? On the importance of local food price data for food poverty estimates

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper explores within‐country variations in food price dynamics and food poverty estimates by employing local market price data and national consumer price index (CPI) data. Our results show that national CPI data may be useful for approximating national trends but they fail to detect and identify spatial variations in local trends, which

Order statistics and heavy-tail distributions for planetary perturbations on Oort cloud comets

open access: yes, 2009
This paper tackles important aspects of comets dynamics from a statistical point of view. Existing methodology uses numerical integration for computing planetary perturbations for simulating such dynamics. This operation is highly computational.

Examining pathways by which socioeconomic instability in adolescence influence sexual health during emerging adulthood in an agricultural setting in California

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the longitudinal impact of socioeconomic instability on teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection (STI) diagnosis among adolescents and young adults (AYA) living in an agricultural region and examines pathways including supportive family and social structures, decision making autonomy in romantic relationships ...

High Soluble Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor 2 in Serum Is Associated With Inferior Overall Survival Across Major Lymphoma Subtypes

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 2 (sTNFR2) is a member of the TNF superfamily whose normal bodily distribution is largely limited to low level expression on lymphoid cells. It has emerged as an important inducible receptor that activates a signaling pathway for cancer growth.

Timing is everything: Fishing‐season placement may represent the most important angling‐induced evolutionary pressure on Atlantic salmon populations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2017
Fisheries‐induced evolution can change the trajectory of wild fish populations by selectively targeting certain phenotypes. For important fish species like Atlantic salmon, this could have large implications for their conservation and management.

General Aspects of Recreational Angling and Some Estimations on Catch Amounts in Turkey

open access: yesDüzce Üniversitesi Bilim ve Teknoloji Dergisi, 2018
Some simple approaches make easy to see problems that lie at the centre of the phenomenon. Contrary toexpectations of outputs at the decision given may originate from lack of this simple approaches.
