L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Structural features of economic integration in an enlarged Europe: patterns of catching-up and industrial specialisation [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper discusses the evolution of competitiveness, industrial and trade specialisation in the manufacturing sector of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEECs). It is shown that the paths taken by the different CEECs have been quite diverse

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Does Farm Size and Specialization Matter for Productive Efficiency? Results from Kansas [PDF]

open access: yes
In this article, we used bootstrap data envelopment analysis techniques to examine technical and scale efficiency scores for a balanced panel of 564 farms in Kansas for the period 1993–2007.

Effect of bait\'s type and shape on catching efficiency of Pots (Gargoor) in Bandar Lengeh waters (Hormozgan province) [PDF]

open access: yesبوم‌شناسی آبزیان, 2017
Gargoor, a wired traditional pot, is used to catch demersal fish on rocky substrates. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of bait's type and shape on catching efficiency of Gargoors in Bandar Lengeh waters (Hormozgan).

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

The ubiquitin system in normal and infected germinal center B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The ubiquitin system plays a central role in germinal center (GC) B cells, influencing differentiation to long‐lived memory B cells. Oncogenic gammaherpesviruses gain access to memory B cells by establishing latency in GC B cells. Mapping ubiquitin mechanisms in normal and infected GC B cells will define specific molecular circuits in B cells germane ...

More evidence on technological catching-up in the manufacturing sector [PDF]

open access: yes
Production frontiers for the manufacturing sector are estimated to determine a “country specific” catching-up process of Total Factor Productivity (TFP).TFP gains are gauged at the manufacturing industry level for 14 OECD countries over the 1970-2001 ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...
