Catenary Action in Rebars Crossing a Casting Joint Loaded in Shear

open access: yes, 2016
Reinforcement crossing a casting joint loaded in shear exhibits catenary action as the shear displacement increases. The load carrying capacity of such a joint is in practice often calculated by use of empirical methods to account for shear friction effects or by a first order plastic analysis if dowel action is included.

Comparison of bond stresses of deformed steel bars embedded in two different concrete mixes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Catenary action in a precast concrete building structural system is one of the ways to avoid progressive collapse. The key for catenary action to work successfully depends on the strength performance of longitudinal ties, which closely depends on the ...

Numerical Investigation of Progressive Collapse Resistance in Fully Bonded Prestressed Precast Concrete Spatial Frame Systems with and Without Precast Slabs

open access: yesBuildings
Preventing progressive collapse induced by accidental events poses a critical challenge in the design and construction of resilient structures. While substantial progress has been made in planar structures, the progressive collapse mechanisms of precast ...

Effect of partial debonding on catenary action of reinforced concrete frames

open access: yes, 2012
Progressive collapse resistance of buildings can be evaluated by introducing a middle column removal scenario to mobilize alternate load paths (ALP). Catenary action, one of ALPs, uses tensile force in beams to balance external loads applied onto structures.

Steel Beam-to-Column Friction Joint under a Column Loss Scenario

open access: yesBuildings
FREEDAM joints have been recently seismically prequalified for applications in European seismically prone countries. Despite their excellent seismic response, FREEDAM joints are not purposely conceived for exceptional loading conditions, such as in the ...

Assessment of Steel-Framed Subassemblies with Extended Reverse Channel Connections Under Falling Debris Impact

open access: yesBuildings
Progressive collapse of building structures induced by accidental extreme loads has garnered significant attention. This study aimed to assess the impact resistance of steel-framed subassemblies with extended reverse channel connections under falling ...

Electromagnetic processes in traction supply system of 2×25 kV with catenary supports disconnected from the railway track

open access: yesВестник Научно-исследовательского института железнодорожного транспорта, 2016
The article explains the possibility of refusal of application of catenary supports of railway track for grounding and use an artificial grounding conductor for this purpose.
